I refuse to believe that anyone who thinks that 1984's main takeaway is that there is no objective truth and that any attempt to stand against propaganda is a greater crime than the propaganda lies themselves has actually read it. The

We have the claim of a refutation here, but one that is obviously weak. If your only explanation of why your toy theory is rejected by everyone else is collective, universal delusion you've already disproven yourself. No theory fits

Transpiler is a very useful word. It makes it clear that the translation doesn't happen from a high-level language to a low-level language as is usually implicitly assumed. Arguing about the technical definition of compiler misses the

The reason is simply familiarity. If you had lived your whole life with an inverted, nonlinear temperature scale that has freezing water at 53 degree, body temperature at 20 and boiling water at 0 degree you would also find that intuitive.

It's only fear-mongering if you silently presuppose that the regulations of the amount and temperature of water is arbitrary. In reality, these regulations are necessary to a) not kill the river and b) to have acceptable safety margins

Unfortunately, readability is at odds with other, more important goals of the authors, like shoe-horning in references to all important papers in the field, especially if they're likely to be written by reviewers. Also, a lot of work m

Apparently she is only the richest person if you include crown estate properties - which I agree mostly shouldn't count as personal property. The personal wealth is still considerable, with 500 million dollars being the low estimates.

There is absolutely no reason why a constitutional monarch would automatically need to be exempted from so many laws. In fact, the UK is the only European monarchy that has such broad exemptions. Liechtenstein might come close though. Eliz
