My story is, I think, atypical. I have no college experience, have been in IT for 19 years, and am now 42. I was hired to my current gig 11 years ago to fill an emergency need for someone with perl and B2B experience, where I showed myself

I think he may have meant 1/12th rather than 1/2th of the speed of light, but I must say I'm very tempted now to start calling one half a "tooth" instead.

I've had good luck with Apache Commons. What specifically do you find objectionable about it? Also, you really shouldn't just drop "x sucks" into a conversation without backing it up with something reasonable. Or was thi

OK. Dear vast majority.... Actually I'm in that boat, too, but of my own doing. At where I work (a large utility in the midwest), we match 75 cents on the dollar up to 6%, so essentially 4.5%. I stopped contributing a few years back to

The video did not include any comments about million dollar babies. It did show him saying a 3% match on 401k is a great deal... which it isn't.

Watching the video of Satya, I found that I was most happy about all the plants in their building. Also it's interesting to listen to Satya's native accent come and go depending on what he's talking about.

OkCupid is how my wife and I met. She was one of two women I exchanged messages with, and the only one I met in person. We've been married for 5 years and have had two children. I have no idea what our match percentage was, and there w

A bug in my code doesn't make javascript horrible, it makes me horrible for rushing to illustrate a point instead of just harrumphing internally and finishing my coffee. Good catch.

"JavaScript is horrible." > function byNum(a,b) {return +a>+b} undefined > [5, 10, 1].sort(byNum) [1, 5, 10] No, it's not.

There wasn't a good description of what overall task his program was trying to do, or any source code showing how he approached maps, etc. Other than that, it sounds like proof. Of everything.

I agree with the goal of this site, however you're not going to open a good dialog with W3Schools if your opening volley is calling them fools.

I'd say time spent optimizing grep (GNU or otherwise) is always well spent. Saving a clock cycle or two per execution in my work's enterprise would translate into needing to lease less hardware, based just on how much grep is used

No. That wouldn't be direct contact, and is, again, more likely to cause injury because you're not getting good kinesthetic feedback. What I'm talking about is what the L&D doctor did when my daughter was born a couple mo
