Absolutely agreed. I am by no means defending Apple’s entire position here — just the pretty mundane operation of logging IP addresses associated with HTTP requests.

Haha ok ok. Awk as a “big” dependency is hyperbole (: I really am interested in what it would take to pull this off with bash. I may try it myself...

So, not a 20 line bash script and at least two big dependencies. Sounds a lot like what you were poking fun at.

I asked because none of the posted permutations offer the same feature set. Specifically, the nice thing about this utility (and reason for the dependencies) is interactive adding and selecting of identities. If this can replicated in bash,

I suspect it was written in JS because that was the author’s language of choice. There are lots of ways to manage git identities and this seems like a decent utility for web devs who already have node installed and don’t care to manually ed

Let’s see the 20 lines of bash that replicate all the features of this utility. Should fit in an HN comment nicely.

In Peace Corps we used a filter bucket and added bleach. Took very little bleach, though I don't recall how often we had to change the filter. It was essentially this: https://www.outbackwater.com/outback-5-gallon-gravi

This seems like an odd argument. One can be angry about... well anything. Not just things owed or not owed. GP is venting some anger here at a relevant moment and the perspective is obviously valuable.

Varnish Configuration Language. Fast.ly’s UI gives direct access to the full (I think?) configuration file to edit in plain text (in addition to its UI tools for doing so).

Interesting reference re: the settings URL: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1598562#c13 Reasoning there seems good enough but I’m not sold on it being absolutely required.

Settings one is interesting, it does appear that you cannot block it[0] and that is sad. The other two appear to be safe browsing and automatic update related. Those two services can be disabled form the regular settings UI, I think? Have y
