It's probably not the answer you want to hear, but you should root it. Rooting and upgrading my cheapo 2.3 phone to 4.0/CCM9 completely revitalized it. Rooting is the true magic of the Android ecosystem.

I meant exactly the same as far as an average user is concerned - you never have to use the search box (I remove it), you can just put search terms in the main box and it'll use the configured provider. I will admit FF is a little worse at

You might be interested to know that Windows keys don't discriminate between 32-bit/64-bit. If you can find installation media for the same type of x64 distribution (Home, Pro, etc) as your 32-bit, you can install x64 and use your current k

Firefox's bar works exactly the same as Chrome's now. And even long before FF started letting you search from the address bar without search keywords, you could use search keywords. I prefer the in-bar history searching in FF too.

As a contrast, I've pretty much lived in LibreOffice (and a little Google Docs) for the past ~2 years for personal stuff and haven't found much I miss from MS Office. My needs for an office suite are pretty basic though, I suppose.

While it's disappointing that it's taken this long for the book to get finished, the publisher Manning has provided downloadable drafts throughout the whole process - a great feature. Thanks to that I've had access to the book (such as it's

Submitters do occasionally badly editorialize titles so there is some need for editors to fix them, but of late there really has been an extremely overzealous HN editor or two at work. Actually, at this point I'd agree - I'd rather have imm

I have a much happier story, luckily. My first internship in college was in R&D of a Fortune 500 company testing bugfixes for software that ran $1M+ machines. Sometimes this involved following test matrices to exercise the machines. At

I used to rent an entire 3BR house for $700/mo, albeit in one of the more depressed markets in the US. Thinking about moving to SF makes me more than a little queasy.

I'm a little disappointed there's no direct download (at least that I can see) for something they're asking money for. Could rip the youtube video I guess, but that's extra hassle and probably against the youtube TOS.

I would think this happens most every time most every MMORPG releases a new patch. I know it's happened almost every release with the two MMORPGs I follow, D&DO and SWTOR. It's just part of the game.

From what I recall about Open Table, what restauranteurs have said they hate most is the lock-in - once you're using Open Table it's very painful to stop since OT owns all the customer data. Plus there's the sunk cost of the OT hardware, in

I realize you're quite possibly kidding, but it's just an optional extra - quick call to TW then swapping the wifi modem for a plain old modem and it's off the bill. Easier than cancelling HBO certainly.

In the US, it depends on the provider. The two giant cable telecoms I've dealt with charged ~$5/month for a wifi router which is really highway robbery - especially considering the quality of the routers they provided. Their provided cablem

AMD is ruthless about dropping support for older architectures, which hits laptop GPUs especially hard. They're about to drop support for R600 and there's still lower-end devices being sold with those. Fortunately as noted above the AMD ope
