CCCP was amazing when it first came about. The last time I wanted to watch something, though, KCP was recommended over CCCP. Things are forever going to be a bit of a mess with playing anime since there's a long tradition of being on t

When I gave the Nexus Mod Manager a try a little while ago, I wondered how it managed to take 18 hours to copy a few hundred files from one directory to another - on a SSD. Wouldn't be surprised if this was at least part of it.

Firefox performance on my older laptop just gets worse and worse. Just a few tabs open to the wrong websites can peg CPU usage at 100%. As far as I can tell this is mainly due to Mozilla "improving" the guts of their rendering at

Much much cheaper? What? The 512GB 950 Pro is $349, 512GB SM951 is as much as $490 if you can manage to find it. The 256GB SM951 is more available, but it's the same price as the 950 Pro at the very best. And that's before you sta

I'd say SSDs are going down in price pretty dang fast. The technology is advancing far more rapidly than HDDs could ever dream of. The Samsung 850 EVO 500GB is already ~25% cheaper than the equivalent 840 was a year ago, with better pe

I haven't really used Twitch broadcasting since it was just justin.tv, but back in those days it was very much just IRC. You could just connect to the IRC channel, and in fact if you wanted to capture logs of the chat or do bots that&#

As sz4kerto said, it was probably tracked by building systems. But beyond that, weather services track every single lightning strike in most of the developed world. Eg BELLS: http://radar.meteo.be/en/3337408-Lightning+d

If the measurement was originally per 1000 gallons it makes sense to preserve the unit. It may be rounded from acre-foot/year, which is 893 gallons/day.

If you're not interested in spending the money to get top-tier performance, there's absolutely no reason to buy Skylake right now. The Intel 750 is NVMe, the next generation of storage interface. The 750 can outperform a SATA SSD

Ah, I guess I'm used to the Haswell DMI bus speed still, which severely limited M.2 speed even if it was 3.0 and 4 lanes. I guess that's probably not the case with Skylake.

You're right, it looks like most of the Skylake launch boards in Anandtech's review are M.2. Somewhat disappointing. I still suspect M.2 is obsolete in the long run, but seemingly not for this generation of Skylake. There are at l

If you care about spending an extra $30 on a CPU cooler, I'd say Skylake is definitely not for you. If you're getting Skylake for gaming you should probably be planning to drop $400 (or more for a bigger size) on an Intel 750 SSD.

> M.2 My impression was that M.2 is going out of style, at least for desktop - the primary form factor for the Intel 750 etc is an actual PCIe card. The alternative connector if you want a 2.5" drive form factor is U.2 (SFF-8639).

The biggest thing I've seen that Skylake provides for high-performance gaming is 26 PCIE lanes. This means you can run a PCIE 3.0 4x+ lane NVMe SSD like the Intel 750 while also running a 3.0 16x GPU (or two GPUs in SLI/CrossFireX
