How is the article exaggerating? It's publicizing (and arguably somewhat glorifying), but I don't see where it's inaccurate.

It's kind of funny how mean/trollish a lot of the comments to this article are here.

ED was having serious bandwidth/funding issues already. Looks like it's down again now; getting this kind of publicity was probably the surest way to kill it dead.

Old, but great.

I've accepted that you have to plan your hardware if you want to use linux. I purchased a USB wifi dongle for my laptop that I knew worked, because I knew the internal chipset would not.

It sounds like this guy has a problem with his current/former employer(s) more than anything.

And in fact, there have been news stories recently about airlines adding a few minutes per flight in this way to save fuel.

Reading it all is not the trick; my reading time is pretty much bounded. The hard part is reading only the most important things, given limited time for reading.

Yes, it seems this was 100% a GoDaddy problem.

Hmm, to get one of these, or to wait until they open up the TLDs?

Hah. You must not have been that good - the ones I never turned in didn't really hurt me either.

I think I can see why it turns into "you vs the world". Can you back up those broad claims?

I think you have it backwards - I had to just skip over most of the Reddit dreck, until I customized it. Now it's a much nicer time sink.

I've been thinking along similar lines since I've been interviewing; far too many interviewers are only looking for the password.

If the teacher was teaching a process, and looking for evidence that you understood that process, it seems entirely reasonable to not count your work.

Nothing against Jacob Nelik, but ideally if your mother has nothing to live for but you, wouldn't it be more helpful to try to get her to develop some other friends/interests?

A smart person.

Like a lot of things, it's good to know for the interview but most likely useless after that.

If you don't like #regions, you don't have to collapse them. I like them personally because they aren't comments - they're comments that imply structure. It sets the high-level structure of the file apart.

How disingenuous - not everything is going to have the same impact.

The fact that seasteading is more realistic really says something.

It seems to be a list of "classics" more than necessarily a list of good books or good scifi books. I'd put Andromeda Strain on there before Timeline or Down and Out. It's funny that Down and Out is one of the few modern books on there -

On http://www.launchsplash.com/designs , don't reset my color selection when I change the template selection (unless the selected color isn't available).

The design is not great, but based on their success I would be much more inclined to believe you don't understand their market.

You're right; I don't think I will ever like it. The only time I find it remotely palatable is when it's used for artistic effect, like a movie website.

I use deal sites, but I check regularly rather than waiting until I need it. Just recently I picked up 2GB for $10 AR - that's pretty decent, you have to admit. On the other hand, this had led to me having several extra GB sitting around.

I agree about active reduction - not worth the effort. However, I still like passive reduction efforts, like those newer monitors that don't draw any current when on standby. (I can't find a link at the moment.) Stuff like that can result i

At that resolution, you'd be somewhat insane to maximize your browser window. You should be using software that divides your screen into regions.

I find his writing to be more enjoyable than effective, but that's fine - there's not a whole lot of technical people out there that are actually enjoyable to read.
