We have pretty sane IP law already in the DMCA - IP rightsholders already have several avenues of recourse, including the US govt's warantless domain seizures. Anything new is going to beyond the DMCA, and probably far beyond. I am not in

Note that while Namecheap doesn't support SOPA, they clearly do support some form of new IP legislation: "not in favor of SOPA as it has been proposed", "... only a surgical strike is necessary." Whatever comes after SOPA/PROTECT IP - assum

The BSA backed off SOPA support several weeks ago - the linked piece is from more than a month ago. Its initial support did lead to a couple of firms quitting the BSA though, notably Kaspersky. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/

I've never bought Amazon's because Monoprice's are about half that ($3.50). Monoprice's cables seem to be of great quality too - they're noticeably better than some of the $20 cables my parents have paid for at retailers.

Ubuntu moving to Unity and Gnome3 forced me to give Xubuntu a try; I like it ok. xfce is like a less-polished Gnome2.

Last time I tried one of those gists, it plain didn't work. Not sure if the gist I tried was outdated by then or if things are working now.

LinkedIn also uses shady-dating-site tactics. A couple of months ago I got an email from them along the lines of "We noticed you haven't logged in in awhile. You have a message waiting from someone in your extended network!". I log in, and

You can do the same with Virgin Mobile (which uses Sprint's network) and probably Sprint also. VMobile's plan is $25 for 300 minutes, unlimited data/text, throttled after hitting a similar cap. Depending on where you travel, coverage may be

According to information given to people on deal sites that asked Amazon associates, Amazon will not be doing the price drop - they're returning all stock to HP.

This morning in the US, there were people lining up outside of retailers before they opened. It was a mini-Black Friday. AFAIK, the price drop happened for Canada on the 19th and in the US on the 20th. Some retailers are accepting the price

I have about 180 tabs open right now on my desktop. They're spread across multiple windows and multiple Firefox profiles, grouped by task. It's not at all hard to find a specific tab, and I use multi-row tabs so they're not tiny.

As suggested, I use VMs fairly often, but just Firefox + Aptana + random other stuff can bump into 4GB on occasion. I could probably make do with 4GB, but I'm hoping the next iteration will go to 8.

Ouch. My parents pay $45/month for 2Mbps. But they live in a rural mountain town where there's only one provider (plus satellite, which is even more expensive with interminable latency).

In software, if your company is any good, you hire good iterns and pay them a good wage to get an edge on hiring them once they graduate. Plus, if you're hiring good interns, they will absolutely benefit you if you let them. Sometimes hugel

I can't make a fair comparison as far as learning curve, but if you're new to scraping Scrapy might in theory be easier. You get a bunch of tools built-in that you don't have to come up with yourself, and you get a pre-defined way of doing

Scrapy is a django-like framework. It has more structure and a lot of built-in features compared to using a library like lxml. lxml and Scrapy use the same library on the backend, libxml2. http://doc.scrapy.org/faq.html#how-does-scrapy-com
