Hand in hand with "ball", I think it's the same way with learning an instrument or music in general. I played for 3 years in middle school (grades 6-8) and put it down because I felt awkward continuing on through high school.

I believe a lot of the lack of adoption has to do with how hard it tends to be setting up the environment for Scala dev on Android. Whereas, Kotlin aims to make it as easy as possible by working hand in hand with Android Studio/Intelli
