My reply is also to the parent comment. This behaviour is possible because most browsers aren't configured to block third party cookies. Make sure you've set yours to do so, and embedded content like Facebook's like button

My solution to not having content aggregator sites like hacker news cluttering up my history is to use them from a private tab. I suppose on the desktop you could also use Firefox's containers.

It's in the /dev/ folder so it looks like a device file provided by the operating system. But it's not. It's a bash built in pseudo file. So it should work in bash on other operating systems.

I can't try Chrome out on my work iPhone because Apple won't let me download a free app without first signing into their store. That and other things make me doubt the sincerity of their privacy push. Why do I have a work iPhone?

On Windows and Mac docker is run in a virtual machine without full access to the host's files so root is less of a problem. Even though docker runs natively on Linux, perhaps a similar vm setup can be achieved for security reasons. I u
