While I don't anticipate the firmware to be used as much as Facebook's React and other previous BSD + PATENTS libraries, but an excellent reason to look towards Valve if you were interested in manufacturing a VR headset. As an Ocu

Interesting, it is also MIT instead of the usual BSD + Patents Facebook uses. [1] It is also under the 'onnx' namespace, presumably because it was a team effort. It looks like Microsoft often uses MIT (vscode, dotnet, CNTK, Chakra

If mutually assured destruction is your definition of peace... But what prevents everyone from becoming patent infringers in this scenario?

I agree, in a perfect word, I could take Facebook's word that "We respect third party IP, including patents, and expect others to respect our IP too." I just can't unsee the way this theoretically could allow Facebook to

They need to stop referring to React as open source software. This is proprietary source code. > We believe that if this license were widely adopted, it could actually reduce meritless litigation for all adopters, and we want to work wit

If you are referring to "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never break me", clearly you have other problems with sympathy and empathy. Free speech does not protect dangerous speech.

Your concern of memory management and undefined behavior is not unfounded. But in my opinion all languages have these problems, in the C the blame is shifted to the software engineer instead of the language authors.

I agree with your concerns. This seems to be standard for Facebook. I saw a similar grant for React js project [1]. The wording has had me look at alternatives for commercial use. The patent grant in React has been on HN several times in th

I feel exactly the same way. I was really excited to see a free cross platform Git GUI. I was really excited to see an alternative to (the every release slower) SourceTree. I was evaluating it at work and liked it's design and ability

I agree that the security of IOT devices is petty terrible in its current state. However the author seems to make a mistake in generalizing that "It doesn’t take a professional to realize his particular house of cards [home security sy

I've never believed in a conspiracy theory except for this case. The government clearly wants to hack more than this one phone. The government clearly waited for the next terror attack to launch this attack on privacy and encryption.

I'll admit my comment was overzealous. I just couldn't help but laugh when he was "splurging on a $10 case" to put his $600 phone in. If you already have the equipment, I don't see any difference between already own

I enjoyed this video, but couldn't help but think about the irony when he started talking about this being "$40" project compared to Oculus + PC ($600 + $2000) while his entire project still required a $600 iPhone and a $2000

The author jokes at projects leaving GitHub for BitbBucket. I would have actually recommended GitLab! It has all the features of GitHub and more, and is actually open source ( https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/

As giancarlostoro mentioned, it's mostly about the web ecosystem; web apps have an amazing number of opensource projects to take advantage of. I see a huge benefit from being cross-platform (windows/osx/linux/android

Since wifi security isn't going to change anytime soon, I have a solution; don't remember network connections. I already do this to avoid connecting to rogue 'linksys' ssid's, and on mobile you might save some batte
