I've also heard a similar story about complaining about elevators taking a long time, but after installing floor to ceiling mirrors in the lobby, people were distracted enough where it didn't feel like it took as long and stopped

I think there's also some real world components of one queue vs many queues that are missing here. For example, at a hotel checkin, flight baggage checking, or Fry's electronics, there is one line which feeds into multiple agents.

It honestly depends also at what level they are in the pipeline, and maybe we've already screened out the other people that can't code before we even ask them to, so I don't dump them in the bucket of people who can't co

I'm really conflicted when I keep hearing that programmers can't program, especially in such a high number (199 out of 200). I've done a fair bit of interviewing (on both sides), and while I've seen some bad people, it s

It is definitely different which is what makes it interesting. Since you're maybe getting something you didn't pay for. On one hand, it is dead weight if you can't use it, which is even worse (since it degrades performance)

A couple of weeks ago, I was taking in some scenery around Creech AFB, North of Las Vegas. While there, I saw a Predator (although it might have been a MQ-9 Reaper) being launched from the airstrip. It looked like a giant model aircraft ge

Great point that Las Vegas has a great road system, and not a lot of traffic (also cheaper gas). It's a major city that can be escaped in 20 or 30 minutes and be in some gorgeous natural areas (Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon). I found LA

I'm three months in, and bootstrapping my own startup on my own dime, so cost of living is the biggest thing, but I also don't need to look for somewhere to take me on. I'd suggest some of the remote work sites, angel list, e

Has anyone thought of the impact this might have on earth based observations? We already have Iridium flares that happen from shiny satellite parts, and these flares have disturbed observations from various observatories (and this wasn
