I kind of see this issue from 2 perspectives: 1) You're perfectly in your right to ask for code samples. Given, you have to make sure in some fashion that they wrote it. 2) From the perspective of someone without sample code -- I can't show

My school's policy (at least to my understanding) was something along the lines of this: * You're not paid, so it's not their property * The customer receives all rights to use the software and the source code in order to modify, but they c

My idea may be flawed. The real "fair tax" is a pre-bate each month for the sales tax you'll pay in the month. Which in that way is an interest free loan to you.

There's also the "fair tax" approach. Everyone pays the same tax, but everyone also gets a check from the govt on the amount of tax they're expected to spend up to the poverty level. The "fair tax" is pitched on the basis of a sales tax.

I agree, there was a whole lot of "citation needed" in that article. The underlying assumption with that statement, is that women do not work best in rigid structure. Now we have 2 pieces of really dubious information. There's no data for e

It's not that you can't expand with #3, it's just more difficult. A friend of mine runs onlyattech.net. It was initially launched for Georgia Tech students, and then when it came to expand, they became the "Only At network" and got onlyatu

I believe a similar question was asked on Slashdot a while back. Someone had some GPLv2 code that another company was selling. The general response was that it was completely legal, because the company only had to disclose the source code t

I could keep everything in my head--the problem is that I'll forget it at some point, whether it's a week from now, a day from now, or 5 minutes from now. Writing stuff down helps.

I've noticed that as well. For the RoR jobs at least, they list a bunch of gems that they use, as if this is the only thing you can or ever use, or else we won't hire you. Sure, in some cases you need a specific toolset, but it's not alway

I think trying to agree on a salary is the best course of action, with or without mediation. Keep your 50/50 split since it seems that your friend is opposed to changing it. You will draw a salary commensurate with your experience and time

Original discussion here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3397810 Does HN find it acceptable to repost things like this? It's a slightly different format (link vs no link), but it seems rather quick to be reposting.
