This article is completely true about traffic driven directly by TechCrunch: lots of users who test, zero retention. That said there's a slightly more interesting effect to being featured on TechCrunch, and that's what I would call "rebound

Lua 5.2 added "goto", which basically solves the lack of "continue". LuaJIT supports it too.

Although the Han ted talk is from 2006, before the iPhone but after the patent (2005). The oldest multitouch device I know is the MERL Diamond Touch table (2001) which clearly predates everything Apple did. I am unsure whether or not somebo

I +1 that. I have working experience with MessagePack and I can confirm it works for the following use cases: * RPC communication between servers where binary data is exchanged and its structure is not always the same (ie. difficult to use

Nothing official but you can fork https://github.com/mkrecny/redis-extend and make a pull request. There was also http://evalsha.com/ which looked cool but went nowhere...

It was actually proposed at the French parliament to (basically) make "piracy" legal and subsidize the cultural industry via taxes. The name of that system was "Licence Glogale" (global licensing).

Interesting. I agree with you when you say what makes Couch interesting is its sync (mobile or not) features. There are lots of DBs out there that focus on scale and not enough on sync. If they want to win the mobile market though, they wil

There are alternate models, eg. LuaJIT http://luajit.org/sponsors.html On a side note: who owns the Redis brand (and logo)?

Exactly. The first version of the HADOPI law was censored by the French Constitutional Council in 2009 on the ground that only a judge could restrict a fundamental right. This is the case with the current version of the law.

A physics teacher of mine destroyed one in class by putting it in acid for an experiment. Funny fact: at that time it was illegal in my country (France). This law has been abrogated since then to allow machines that crush coins to make souv

It wouldn't be such a bad idea if: 1) it only downloaded a new version of the app when it changed (easy with ETags); 2) apps were lightweight (hard on current mobile platforms). If platform vendors and application developers cared, it would

Your point would be valid if the memory gain observed was not directly dependent on the fact that hashes are zipmap-encoded. So the trade-off here is between the constant factor of time complexity and the constant factor of memory complexit

Lookups are not really O(1), they're O(number of keys per hash) as long as the hashes are zipmaps. When they become full blown hashes the memory usage increases. Still, this is a very good way to store a lot of key/value pairs in Redis.

Avoiding feature bloat is indeed one of the goals of this move, as explained in the blog post. Several users are requesting features in the Google Group, others like me maintain forks. With user-defined procedures, hopefully we will no long
