I left Verizon after about 6 or 7 years a month ago because I wanted an iPhone. It's just the best phone for my needs on the market. But if Verizon gets the iPhone next year, or the Palm Pre and the Pre offers a comparable user experience,

"Internet-enabled devices in mature markets" doesn't include mobile, and as far as I can tell doesn't pretend to. So this article is essentially arguing against a claim Adobe never makes. Seems like sort of a made up gripe to me.

I think it is ... it's just harder the more saturated your niche gets. If you have a unique voice/point of view and are willing to put in the work (long hours, lots of hustling), you can still make a living blogging. (Bearing in mind that

That was my first thought -- not that the rumor was untrue, but that it was an exceptionally weak basis for a story, and possibly bordering on irresponsible. A tip from a random person via email that starts off with "I heard from a friend.

I'm sick of articles claiming you can't make money blogging. 1. You can (I have). 2. It's not easy. I took the cheaters route by working for already well established blogs, but plenty of bloggers who have started in the past few years are d

I've never liked sites that start the user off on a crowded country-wide Google Maps view. It seems like such a clumsy way to display data. One, I don't want or need to find every pizza place in the US, so why show it to me? and 2. it's o

Definitely good advice. Having the skills to be able to fix problems when shit goes awry (or at least enough so that things aren't exploding until someone who really knows what they're doing can fix them right) would be a good thing, for su

I guess the question was mostly theoretical -- then again, it's only theoretical for another month or so. To answer your questions: * Ruby on Rails, Apache with Phusion Passenger for deployment. We've been using SQLite for development, but

As a blogger, speaking from my own personal experience, cold calling is perhaps the absolute worst way to pitch. I generally end up just ignoring calls unless I'm expecting them for a planned product/news brief. They're distracting, take

I start it, and then see how it's going a few days in. If it's a struggle then it either probably isn't something I want to be working on, or there's something wrong with my premise that's keeping me from really "feeling it." So back to t

For sites that get such a small amount of traffic I don't know if Compete is accurate enough to draw any conclusions. Rails Forum gets about 110,000 uniques per months, but Compete says 24,000. I guess the point still stands if they're ess

I think you're reading too much into the analogy -- or misreading it. The analogy isn't, "web business are just like pizza shops!" Rather, the sentiment that I think Allen was communicating is, "in _any_ business, there is always room for

Just did a search and found something on what I was talking about: http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=5302 Had my facts a little mixed up (it's 43 distribution centers, not in 45 states). Anyway, take it for what you will. :)

The argument I've always heard against Amazon acquiring Netflix is that Netflix has distribution centers in something like 45 states, whereas Amazon only has them in a handful. So that'd be 45 states in which Amazon would then have to char
