I’m a working professional with no PhD in a field where it might make sense, and I’ve certainly made hiring decisions positive where one candidate had a PhD and the other did not. It has not affected me personally, but I could also see wher

I would change any links you have pointing to Imgur. But as for storing the contents, wasn’t it just a site for memes? I can’t recall a single time over many years seeing anything worth preserving that wasn’t essentially throwaway content.

For practical purposes this is not correct though. It would be trivial for the person whose turn it is to make _any_ legal move to shift the current turn over to their now-deceased opponent and as such win the game.

I have also noticed this. One in particular who I followed because they posted a bunch of really excellent astronomy photos and had an exuberance for space flight recently “got accepted” to “go to Mars” and now they “live on a faux mars bas

I mentioned this above, but at least in the short term my experience has been that paying more doesn’t yield better results on most tasks, which I naively attribute to those skills not being available at any price from the current populatio

Sounds a little meta! Managed managed labeling workflow. I do wish Amazon would do a better job with this, and I also have no doubt if a company like this sprang into existence and was successful, Amazon would clamp down on it in some way —

I have definitely upped the pay and not achieved better results. I don’t think it’s quite as simple a solution as you’re making it out to be. Realistically no matter how much you pay people who don’t have the medium to advanced skills to do

I think it’s obvious to an everyday English speaking person, this is a take on a regular saying, like “costing an arm and a leg” or “sell my firstborn” or something. Though if I were this Twitter person, I would definitely avoid any metapho

This is good. I love Texas in general and have many close ties, but the hypocritical directions they’re taking are too much. We love Austin as well and as a startup actively looking to open its third office, Austin is a really attractive ta

I’ve known people with epilepsy who were banned from driving due to this possibly. If they had driven and gotten a seizure and killed someone, they would have been driving with a reckless disregard for the safety of others, which is enough

I don’t know much about trading, but it appears to be down nearly 5% this morning as of right now. Regardless, I think you’re conflating trading price with whether something is material in general.

Yeah we’re a small startup and we pay $120k / 12 per month for interns. Otherwise it’s difficult to get interns at the level we need. Really not surprised finance pays more.

Still, it’s hard to imagine how one might ever consider such a small inconvenience “gravely inconveniencing” even in that very specific context. It’s such a small thing. I don’t think one has to have worked in the salt mines to think this.

It sounds like it was a side task not related to the company or the company’s work, but rather the writing was at the whim of the person at issue. My framing is something like telling someone who reports to you to do your college homework.
