In short, the article offers: "Which of the three is best? The one you like most. If you like good things, then it's Linux." It is neither wise, nor critical, nor useful. I don't know how people-pleasing passes as having

Giving scientists access to the connectome snapshot alone is very exciting. The first step to understanding why something is and how it came to be is seeing what it is. There are systems at play that form the brain into what it is and

Amazing work technically, less than 1 second is very impressive. It quite scary though that I might FaceTime someone one day soon, and they’d won’t be real. What do you think about the societal implications for this? Today we have a bit of

I don’t think AI is necessary here, nor more data. You can post-process these bridges by voxelizing them and carving out the bottom. There are many heuristics to use. And with sanity checks to discard bridges the post-processor can’t handle

When I lived in a shared house, Facebook learned about my relation to my housemates without my consent. I didn’t use a single Facebook product at the time and used a VPN on my devices. A few years later, when I signed up to Facebook, my ex-

Nice fact check, thank you. I didn’t know H-bombs used fusion but it makes complete sense. Hydrogen is not exactly the heaviest of elements :) Well then, for my example, imagine a different future discovery that could be abused. Let’s say b

I am not convinced the text means what you say it means. All knowledge (publicly available and not) and all tools (AI or not) can be used by people in material ways to commit the aforementioned atrocities, but only the models producing nove

Perhaps virtue-signalling is recognised more in society now. I and people around me have developed an eye for performative outrage, posturing, and politics in the last several years. The hurting ego is often thinly veiled by grandstanding a

By solution I meant “tool” or “method” to resolve. Divisiveness is not a necessary outcome of most disagreements (political, cultural, societal, interpersonal), and it is not the right tool to solve them. Diplomacy is a better tool, calm an

I see you are taking the conversation in two different directions, so I will respond to both. People used to pay more for music due to scarcity. Piracy makes music more easily available — you are right, so it does decrease scarcity by compe

Divisiveness is the wrong solution to real problems. I am happy to discuss any cultural value respectfully and seriously. But nothing productive will come out of a discussion mired by incendiary language and identity politics, it is a waste

My argument doesn’t speak about the affordability. It speaks about an exchange of money for value. Not if one can spend the money, but if that money would be well-spent. :) Piracy is often significant effort and risk. Not high but significa

I’d argue against this. If the tool is too difficult, kids often lose interest. So it can have an adverse effect. As much as I’d want to teach my 11 year old kid Unreal Engine, it’s not realistic. Pun not intended.
