I also wonder what "fantastic IDE" he is referring to. I constantly hear people talk about visual studio being great but I don't believe they have ever stepped outside their world to try some of the Java IDEs like IntelliJ IDEA.

I completely forgot about these guys but I think they have been doing this for a while. I can think of a number of reasons you might want to do this and one of those would be to use the Apple HTTP video streaming software that was released

In the end will this debate really matter at all? So many browsers are already supporting html5 features like canvas and the video tag.

I'm not sure the comment was about valuation it was about the purchase price. The buyer has to pay what the company is willing to take and part of that equation is how much the VCs that gave them $6M want for a return.

It may not be too high if you look at the VC money they had raised. $6M had been invested so if that was a 50% stake then you are looking at a 4x return for the VC. Isn't that about right?

I would be up for building some StackScripts myself but I hate to have to buy a complete plan to do it. I really wish Linode would offer a more fine grained billing.

If this is true and it is just a compiled version of PHP how much better is that going to be than APC or eAccelerator? There must be more to it than just compiled PHP.

This will probably spur B&N to do the same thing for the Nook. Or maybe Amazon saw that coming since the Nook is an Android device and that seems like an obvious advantage for developing apps.
