Are those valid zip codes? Neither 77915 or 12345 are in my database of zip codes. I have a table that has the lat/long of zip codes so that I can find the closest observation station. Edit: If I can't find the zip, I'll default to that

A little project I did over the holidays. I got sick of how slow and cluttered weather.com was, so I whipped up this little service. I hope other people can find it useful. It took me about a day. It is written in Rails. It contains abo

Drupal kind of forces the 3-column layout on you. It's not really very easy to extend (from what I've experienced). I've just never seen anyone have a good Drupal experience.

I'm doing the exact opposite. I've got 2 weeks off of work, and I've pledged to do no work at all in that time period. I've been burning the midnight oil working on my web app nights and weekends while working at my day job full time. I

1) I highly suggest NOT changing the deploy.rb file in the Cap gem. You can override any task in your own deploy.rb file. For instance: namespace :deploy do desc "Custom stop task" task :stop, :roles => :web do #My custom

I'd advise against it. What do you really want to do? Wordpress can be surprisingly flexible. You might want to try that (w/ some plugins).

(late, I know) There are several Flexcar locations in my city, but the nearest is about a 1.5 mile walk. Not really convenient =(

From what I've seen, most Angels will be fine in and "advisory" role, and don't expect to be given the right to make decisions for the company. But with money raised by serious venture capital firms, they definitely expect more control. It

I live in the city and drive about 50 miles a month, while paying about $150 a month for insurance. This will be a Godsend for me. I can't wait.

Anyone can code. Anyone. It is a question of motivation and effort, not intelligence.

I love Powell's. On a recent trip to Portland, it was all I could do to walk out of there without having spent over $200.

I've been developing off of the preview releases for a few weeks, and there's nothing earth shattering. Generally, it just makes things nicer. I don't do a lot of AJAXy stuff, and I don't talk very frequently to clients that aren't standar

I'm all for Atlanta-area startups, but... What the hell does it do? I've read the elevator pitch three times and I can't figure it out.

The last paragraph is priceless: "That's how everyone else does it." These people really don't understand that doing the same thing that everyone else does is not a winning strategy. Ever.

If it was stolen from your car, you might be able to get your car insurance to pay for it. But you might have to file a police report.

Ruby/Rails/Mongrel/Pound does a great job of utilizing all those CPUs that I have in a production environment. There's a bunch of overhead, but it is easier than having to deal with locking. It really depends on your application, though.

Maybe it was faster for truly smart people to get a Ph.D. back in the day. My father had his Ph.D. in computer science by the time he was 21. I tried to take one masters-level course when I was 22 and they laughed at me. I think it is the
