Chegg, for many students, is still a better option. Great customer service. Simple Process. Wide-spread adoption and availability of titles. Granted, I'm a chegg user, but Amazon surely has a run for its money.

Mentat, to your second point, I have had the same experience. Even in classes and curricula that are supposed to be interdisciplinary, the boundaries are still rigid and the connections superficial. That compromises learning. And, I think o

^^Agree. Check out meetups and hack-a-thons. Contact any hacker spaces if there are in your area. Look at startup sites and email lists, e.g. StartupDigest. Go to one or two meetups/ dev. events and make friends. BYOC - Bring your own code.

Not to mention a few of those countries that have recently been devastated by earthquakes are in regions susceptible to quakes - Japan, New Zealand, even Haiti. Japan, for example, has had a long history of dealing with quakes. What's strik

Yes. Olin, the college where the author teaches, encourages that kind of stuff. I hope they are the start to a trend.

It seems like the major newspapers source their stories from the HN front page. It's great that they're listening - but, if they are just relying on HN and the signal and noise around it, they should also step out of this field of myopia an

Yes. On Slidedeck's website, they have use cases that demonstrate their products in action. I wouldn't use the silver layer style as is. I would like to see it in context -- what would an actual blog page look like using it or what would an

Try converting some tutorials as pdf's. I'm learning python. I've been able to convert "Learn python the hard way" and "Invent with Python" into pdf's which I then save on my desktop. Check out this HN member's page http://krainboltgreene.

The two ways I see a community college worth the effort are by 1.) saving money and 2.) only if all your credits can be applied to your 4 year degree. But, why even get an associates, when you can jump right into a 4 year degree, taking a f

Tim is our generation's chuck norris. I've seen his Tedtalk - it's like he walks on water. He's a genius at self-promotion, but too much cloud in the sky goals and success, and you start to see the fluff.
