> If you want to code by hand, then do it! No one's stopping you. But we shouldn't pretend that you will be able to do that professionally for much longer. If you can't code by hand professionally anymore, what are you bei

Please tell me how to do this with any of the inference providers or a tool like llama.cpp, and make it work across machines/GPUs. I think you could maybe get close to deterministic output, but you'll always risk having some leve

Yes, they will output the same file hash every time, short of some build time mutation. Thus we can have nice things like reproducible builds and integrity checks.

I wish these folks would tell me how you would do a reproducible build, or reproducible anything really, with LLMs. Even monkeying with temperature, different runs will still introduce subtle changes that would change the hash.

Any good research papers on the impact of short form video on the human brain? This is a major cause for the attention crisis we're facing IMO.

I wish PostgreSQL had a native vector implementation instead of using extensions. They're kind of a pain in the ass to maintain, especially with migrations.

Were they really 100% anti-copyright though? By and large, copyright is the reason most of us have a job and get paid. There are things that shouldn't necessarily be copyright-able like APIs, and copyright probably exists for too lon

Why wouldn't I just call the same shell script in CI and locally though? What's the benefit here? All I'm seeing is circular logic.

This just seems like calling a shell script with extra steps. I have a shell utility similar to make that CI/CD calls for each step (like for step build, run make build) that abstracts stuff. I'd have Prek call this tool, I guess

I struggle to see value with git hooks. They're an opt-in, easily opt-out way of calling shell scripts from my understanding--you can't force folks to run them, and they don't integrate/display nicely with CI/CD. W

Most folks don't realize they're paying (up to) an extra 30% to Apple on everything they purchase in the app store. On top of an already exorbitant device price. I'm sure you'd see more outrage if you had the app price

I feel like this is such a tragedy of the commons for the LLM providers. Wikipedia probably makes up a huge bulk of their dataset, why taint it? Would be interesting if there was some kind of "you shall not use our platform on Wikipe

But full consistency isn't web scale! There are a lot of times where full consistency with some kind of cache in front of it has the same client quirks as eventually consistency though. As always, the answer is "it depends".

I think the rapid iteration and lack of consistency from the model providers is really killing the hype here. You see HN stories all the time around how things are getting worse, and it seems folks success with the major models is starting

I think the article can basically be summed up as "GenAI sychophancy should have a health warning similar to social media". It's a helluva drug to be constantly rewarded and flattered by an algorithm.

IMO, this could be solved by having a finance team with good workflows and a real human resources team/psychologist on staff that would handle all of the interpersonal drama. It's an interesting anecdote but I don't think it

So... nothing. Glad we're in agreement here. If AI can do all the things people hope/dream it can, there won't be any value in doing it on behalf of folks. I would argue that even some "AI provider" (if that coul
