I just pre-ordered! This looks fantastic for what I'm trying to do; reading temperatures of barbecues and smokers via wifi. I already have a working prototype using a Raspberry Pi, but of course I needed to add a USB wifi dongle and a

I noticed it was down a bit earlier as well, but I wouldn't say HN is down frequently. In fact, I can only think of today's incident and maybe one other where HN was down without any kind of advanced notice.

...Yesterday it was Google. Both companies just announced a bunch of stuff and you're surprised to see it here?

Sure looks like it to me. Compiler can't figure out how to replace 'true' with '\true'? Better do it myself.

I was thinking more along the lines of assaulting people or committing crimes. Things that could ruin your reputation or career that are generally disagreeable. I think what you are trying to say is that the powerful will determine what is

I believe everything you have said is true, especially with cameras becoming smaller and more common. However, I'll still be optimistic and hope that with the increasing number of cameras, people will be less likely to engage in activi

Terrifying would be continuing to take everything we see as fact in 5 to 10 years. I think we are in a special time where if you see a video of pretty much anybody, you can usually tell right away if it's fake or not. Sometimes it'

I wouldn't worry about that too much, if they ignore your email then it ends there. I don't think anyone will put your email on a worldwide blacklist because you sent a feeler email out. I would be worried about sending my persona

I'm not sure I have a good answer to your question, but I remember reading somewhere a little story about a developer on a team whose net lines of code written (total written - total removed) was always at a negative or small value. Th

Not really a prank, but a while ago my group of friends thought that the smiley with a nose ( :^) ) was really weird and creepy in casual conversation (we never use smileys). So naturally I wrote a twitter bot that finds all normal smileys

It may be just me, but the fullscreen video that's shaky and moving in and out of focus is making me a little dizzy.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. I come from the "Apple Capital of the World" and it's all about local fruit. We ship out our fruit everywhere in the world, and it's not going to be anywhere near

Probably not. People are going to post the links to Apple's announcements which makes sense. I don't want to read the discussion of the iWatch along with everything else in one thread.

Where are you getting the idea that preferential treatment is being given? Y Combinator is opening it's umbrella to include more diverse walks of life, not giving any group preferential treatment.

Yes, they should and they are now. I think that Y Combinator understands that by not taking these steps, they are possible excluding people who may be the best candidate for the job. Y Combinator is simply extending it's reach with the

I have always wondered how the number of users turns into a dollar amount, especially when what you said is true about the lack of personal details. Maybe the valuation is based on the number of ransom-able pics in their database. :)

Or maybe it was a sincere compliment? If Lori was a bodybuildier, maybe Day would have said "And I must say, she's also the strongest." I'm also not sure how calling someone pretty objectifies them.

I do not admire a society in which highly regarded scientists are drawn to commit suicide after being cleared of any wrongdoing, according to the original article. The loss of Sansai is truly saddening.

If it's a fresh hard drive, why not partition it? Unless you are looking to use it on both Windows and Ubuntu, and in that case Ubuntu should have no problem reading and writing to it if you set it up in Windows.
