Hey, it's alright - rasz just asked a question, and it was a fair one :)

Yep, that's a fair point: both the Raspberry Pis and the smart PLCs were indeed absolutely overkill for the project. However, they're what we know best, and minimising development time for a small prototype multi-site deployment w

Yeah, exactly this: there's no way for the author to tell if the method is actually any better, so this article seems a little premature!

Hah, it's great to hear that the etch-and-polish approach actually works! I've considered doing this to my glasses to remove messed-up antireflective coatings, but always chickened out before actually doing it.

I wish I could do this - I've asked my opticians if I can have lenses without the coating, but they've said that the lenses automatically come coated and there's nothing they can do. Which seems pretty strange given that the

Yep. We use smart PLCs (programmable logic controllers - basically an Intel Atom powered realtime platform with modular high-speed analogue/digital I/O) for a lot of our projects. For one project, we were planning on deploying a c

"My business card emulates a long-obsolete MIPS-based DEC computer, which then runs Linux" is a more accurate, and certainly significantly more impressive, description :)

Thanks for the full translation. I don't know much Latin but even I could tell that the 'translation' in the article was most likely complete bunk.

Another ex Amazon guy here. I visited the Dunfermline FC, did picker training, and shadowed a picker for an hour. I also followed company email lists and FB groups for years. It became extremely obvious to me that what I saw in my curated e

There are even mail order services which will send you a pretty box with a pre inoculated block in it. Open the packaging, keep it under your table and check it so often, and you get tons of mushrooms. It's really fun. The utility of t

It's an easier UI. I visited a car park recently that had switched to ticketless operation, and now in order to pay, you have to enter your car license number using the on-screen keyboard. It's not exactly hard, but it's an o

Wow! Absolutely gorgeous. I wonder what the motivation was for such over-the-top decoration? Lots of money sloshing around and a desire to make things beautiful for beauty's sake? Individual or governmental prestige?
