Fair enough but you could say the same for the cyclists. Ultimately having traffic sharing a lane with high relative speeds is dangerous. It's dangerous for the cyclist at 15mph having a car come from behind going 45mph, and it'

On a 45mph road though that's a closing speed of 90mph assuming everyone's following the speed limit. It seems crazy to me to have opposing traffic sharing a lane at those speeds.

IMO the answer as to why is that Ira Glasser was replaced by Anthony Romero as executive director in 2001, and Romero substantially reoriented the organization.

The cost does seem excessive, but it’s surprising that Boeing would make such a bad deal given that the U.S. government had no real alternative. What is the president going to ride in, an Airbus?

NYRB in the nineties when I was reading it was absolutely amazing. I can say that my life and my tastes would be different without it. In the 2000s it got much thinner. The articles were shorter, and under GWB it veered much more into po

There is a much larger player that did this on a much larger scale (100-1000x) in April-May 2020 in California and some neighboring states and the story has never been told because they did it with the blessing of the state.

I think it depends on the terrain in which you're operating on and whether you're on the offense or the defense. In urban or wooded terrain where engagement distances are shorter, the NLAW is probably a little better. In desert

I think that having 5% manufacturing capacity almost might as well be zero given the kinds of things we manufacture today. For example, a car used to have a carburetor that was relatively simple, just a few metal parts. Now we have very s

Maybe even more amazing: In about 1985 Sears piloted a thing called "Electronistore." You could go into a Sears store and browse the catalog and place orders on a computer (a PC/XT) with a credit card. The computer setup was
