Look at BrainTree and Balanced Payments. We use BrainTree at http://nextproof.com to process payments and then ACH funds to our customers a few days later. It works great but you will need to contact them. Also, be aware you are likely vi

Thanks for writing this. I was one of the original people who asked about this in your previous post. Working at Google is something that intrigues me. After doing (my own) startups for 10+ years, it's one of the few big companies I'd consi

This looks like a nice, Node port of Jekyll. Not really how I prefer to blog. My idea for a blogging platform (maybe even a service), if I ever get to it, would be a combination of Jekyll and Posterous . In other words, you'd have: * A Jek

Seems obvious–having a female in the group might ease some anxiety/intimidation (which the community has caused) of other females who visit the site and want to follow their progress.

Good idea, questionable execution: * Should have had a female in the group * The first guy isn't "learning to code", he's a programmer learning a new language/framework

This seems silly. If nothing else, following the advice here will help you hire better engineers for your own startup.

Really good post, thanks David. I'm really curious as to how you landed an interview at Google (let alone a job) without a college degree. My understanding is they are very strict about that and it's hard to even get a foot in the door wi

That's because people tend to bitch about things online when they have a really horrible experience. Most people don't go out of their way to tell everyone things are "just working".

First of all, having used sitter city, I don't really like their model. Once you find a sitter or 2 you like, there's no reason to keep paying for the site. Differentiating between a "network" and a "marketplace" can be tough (I'd call sitt

I'll admit the license issue is weird, but really–since when is $25 or $90 expensive ? I purchased the Isotope commercial license a few months back and I actually bought the Packery one today. I'm not really concerned with the nuances or s

Personally, I think this is great. I'd love to see other marketplaces offer this service (Etsy, eBay, Craigslist) or better yet I'd like to see new startups take this angle as a way to disrupt. I understand there's a place for anonymous t

Being backed by a company (a) not known as a player in the mobile PaaS space (ie higher likelyhood they will shut it down) and (b) known to care little about user privacy may have also made the chasm 3x wider .
