I've been predicting a return to manual content curation for a while. Algos are not going to be able to keep up with the flood of new content. Record labels are going to be more important than ever.

I take it you've never lived in a developing country? People there don't have much bargaining power. For example, when I lived in Vietnam I'd often see a road crew of ten people with shovels because it was cheaper than hiring

Having worked in both quite a bit I think Flutter is a more polished and stable tech stack. But RN might be easier if you already know React.

That’s very close to my list. It’s only a few characters but “final” takes up too much space. And I agree types on the right are easier to read. Other than that I’m mainly looking for the reasons code generation is required today to go away

People in first world countries, with education, health care, good housing etc are expensive. If you're willing to deny them all that then they're cheap and easy to replace. Whereas building a machine that can do even the basics o

It seems increasingly likely to me that we're going to see the standard sci-fi script flipped. Instead of AI and robots doing grunt work for humans, AI will be doing most of the decision making, perhaps guided by a small human elite, a

After 20 years of using python I still think significant whitespace is a flaw. It saves a little bit of typing in exchange for a lot of ambiguity.

I completely agree. I was lukewarm on Dart but decided to do my new app in Flutter and it's turned out to be a great experience. Kotlin and Swift may look better on paper but Dart is very productive. The tooling is really solid and the

The NYRB is that very boring family friend who has no idea how to talk to anyone who’s not a tenured professor and consequently spends most of his time in an armchair. We must be reading a different NYRB. The NYRB is one of the few remain

JetBrains sells very expensive tooling around Kotlin & KMP. If it takes off their path to profit is pretty clear. That said, building a really good cross platform UI toolkit and framework is really hard. It remains to be seen if JetBrai

I like Flutter a lot and I think right now it's much more capable and mature than KMP is. The problem is Google is in aggressive cost cutting mode and it's not clear how Flutter contributes to their bottom line in a meaningful way

In the mid to long term I think Kotlin and KMP are likely to be where Google puts its effort. Flutter is likely toast but it will be some time before KMP is polished enough to replace it.

Current LLMs have a number of limitations that human reasoning doesn't. Whether these are intrinsic to the technology or can be overcome with larger and better datasets is an open question.

I don't think it it's a technical issue. On a technical level Flutter is mostly great. But Google has been doing aggressive cost cutting lately and not having Flutter in use in that many apps makes it more vulnerable.
