The next update to my player is going to support Opus. It would be nice if it was better supported by the OS though. https://www.plastaq.com/minimoon

I think SwiftUI is to blame. In order to make a nice terse DSL for WWDC talks they really contorted the language design.

It takes a minute to build from scratch or to update when running "build_runner watch"? My app is over 40k lines and watch updates almost instantaneously.

They exist but they're still missing a lot of things you'd want in a data class like copyWith, serialization etc. In practice in a Dart app you usually use freezed or something similar: https://pub.dev/packages

You could even say that overconfidence in abilities and knowledge outside of core expertise is the critical flaw of today's entire tech industry.

The vast numbers of low income vegetarians in India would no doubt find this argument very novel.

Logic Pro iPad is a subscription. It remains to be seen if the desktop version goes this way. Reason is pushing a subscription model hard. Online services like Splice are sub based for sounds & samples. Bitwig is a yearly fee. You don&#

My respect for PG and the rest of the leadership of the tech world unfortunately seem to be headed off the same cliff. The arrogance and lack of empathy is so disappointing and so unnecessary. Please try harder. A lot is at stake here.

I was unhappy with the state of music players on macOS too so I wrote my own: https://www.plastaq.com/minimoon

I agree. In fact I built my own music player to support this on Mac because I wasn't happy with the existing apps: https://www.plastaq.com/minimoon

Bandcamp seems to have survived changing ownership and is still a good service. More specialized e-tailers like boomkat and bleep are also good for some genres.

One of my favorite things about Tauri is that I can write all the "back end" code in Rust. I think this has a lot of advantages for performance and correctness. For that reason alone I'm more inclined to reach for it than Ele

Of course there are still categories of app that should be native. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a place for things like Tauri and Electron too.

The thing that limits my use of these tools is that it massively disrupts my mental flow to shift from coding to prompting and debugging the generated code. For self-contained tasks that aren't that complex they can save a lot of time

The subject of this particular app isn't the point. It's the economics of the app business in general.

This is the unfortunate reality of the app business today. Without constant ad spend it's very very difficult to acquire new users. And constant ad spend is of course not possible with a low one-time payment for the app.
