Agreed re: pragmas as a hack, but that's just the kind of thing you'd expect to get to gain traction, before folding into a language standard. And re: data parallelism, I don't see that anyone has made a terribly popular implementations. T

I'd argue that compared to OpenMP and CUDA, Cilk has very little traction. My frame of reference is the current set of HPC platforms, though. We had one customer who wanted to build Cilk, and it was really just for R&D, not production

As noted, you can run vim or emacs in a way where you can mouse where you want to go. In practice, there's usually a way to get to the place you want to be via some other command. For vi, you can usually use /search to get where you want.

This piece from 100 days ago: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2493319 has a lot of endorsements for the MBA as a primary work machine. I'd assume it has only gotten better since the latest upgrade.

Agreed. There was a nice post on HN recently ( http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2714149 ) about combining fabric + vagrant to manage django deploys. The vagrant part handles the "use puppet or chef" part of provisioning, while the fabr

I would love to see more details of the fabric+vagrant integration. For instance, you don't show how the prod/dev prefixes in your fabric commands are used to set the vagrant destination host, or the site urls. The vagrant way of things s

I just don't buy into the "I didn't need X, so I will not provide X" argument. It is clear that toddler iphone apps are not required for learning. That doesn't mean they aren't good at what they do. And, even if they're merely neutral w/

You can also go for the INCITE or ALCC programs from the DOE: http://www.doeleadershipcomputing.org/ They award O(1 billion) hours to O(100) projects, and you don't need DOE funding to apply (or even be a US-based project). The catch is

If you don't need the https, you can just use proxy connect, per http://benctechnicalblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/ssh-over-conne... You can use this to get ssh from places that only let you use the regular 80/443 ports.

Minor nit: "my differences only make me that much more unique." Unique is an absolute state. One is unique or not; there is no more/less about it. Per the dictionary usage guidelines, think about using something like: "rare, distinctive,
