Overpopulation is a direct result of medical progress, specifically penicillin and treatment for children's diseases.

Today is spent a full 30 seconds driving at a crawling pace behind a guy so immersed in his phone that he didn’t notice he was walking in the middle of the street.

You do realize that there are plenty of countries where people separate recyclables at home, right? And that it’s not a big deal. Your attitude is why we can’t have nice things, like a healthy planet for my grandkids to live on.

I’m sure it would be justified as a pre-emptive strike against people who will become a problem.

I always thought the coldest you could possibly feel safely was in moving ice water.

Look up the stuff Wim Hoff “Ice Man” is onto. Hot/cold shocks of any form are super fascinating.

This assumes that conformity is the best way to increase value for society which I would argue is wrong.

I’ve seen the debtor shaming first hand. Access to transport & payment is getting harder and harder without a mobile phone.

Because many see it as a tax. Especially when safely matching the actual speed of traffic will consistently get you the lowest ticket of about 50 EUR for being 5km above the limit.

I drove from Paris all the way to the Northern border and was amazed at not having seen a single working camera. Also every major road crossing had at least one guy in a yellow vest picketing. Must admit that I kinda supported the work they

But it requires each application to write custom code to support. In a world where companies chose Electron over proper native development that is a no-go.

Subvocalisation or telepathic interfaces should solve that. I think that is actually closer than we think it is.

I sometimes wonder if a shortcut would be to hire & Fire quickly but only for short-term contract work. After X time as a contractor devs can upgrade to a full position.

The content payload of that article can be expressed in maybe a few k for the text and then a few more hundred kB for the images. What have we done?!

I do the same & WhatsApp is the answer for me. I am considering ditching that because it’s the last thing I use that is owned by FB though.

I go a step further and turn off all notifications. I’ll just periodically check the Phone app to see if anyone called & call back.

I have only experienced this when connecting to non-Apple audio sources. At which point it’s just the usual Bluetooth BS experience.

I second the AirPods sentiment. I feel naked without them. I still have a 6S and the thought of plugging in seems barbaric. Such a great product!

Second the Amsterdam bit: bikes all around you makes for some very interesting driving & AI would need extensive extra training over there. Self-driving cars will need to be localized for traffic “culture” all around the world.
