A classic! Kinda sad to see that world has become reality & nobody seems to have noticed it. Edited to add: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanically_separated_meat

How on earth is washing windows worth $500 / day ?! Or am I misunderstanding and does it involve rope work?

Well, for most of my projects I end up beating a framework into submission to make it do what I want. Using something like Drupal for those projects (I have) would accomplish only one thing: drive me insane.

Has our society become so utilitarian that we can't even spare the change for paying a few people to work on things that previous generations have considered worthy of pursuit? (a.k.a. The Arts) Sure, producing more widget workers for the

From experience I can tall that cell phones seem to work up to an altitude of about 7000ft in slow-flying aircraft (ask a skydiver).

Isn't that why you should VPN out? I think in this case frustration is good . Makes people look for solutions & realize how stupid that firewall is.

Yep, that's UX. Of the methods you mentioned I find card sorting to be particularly effective when you are trying to figure out what to present to the user.

Thanks, that was an interesting read. I'm not sure what to think of these kinds of experiments. Most of the time I feel like modern science is hindered by too much political correctness, but then you read something like this ... makes me re

A while ago I gave a colleague a game idea & challenged him to get it in the AppStore within 1 month just to prove that ideas are worthless. Nothing happened, so maybe I should do it myself after all?

You're not the only one, the SEO people in my company got onto this surprisingly quickly. I sometimes feel black (hat) has become the new white: for whatever reasons companies seem to be more willing to accept the less ethical sides of doin

Fellow Belgian here. Left the country 4 years ago & honestly I'm not sure if I ever want to go back. I'm raving mad about the political insanity. Despite the high tax levels, we managed to become a country that is virtually bankrupt

If you feel bored and lonely, do something that scares you. That's how I got through difficult times. Lots of geeks remain geeky out of self-consciousness. Never be afraid to make a fool of yourself. 10 years from now nobody will give a shi

You have a revolution brewing there, brother. I'll add to that: what if people would just stop sugarcoating everything & tell what they really think.

It's an interesting problem that needs solving, it got me thinking, so I guess it is appealing to the intellectual in me. What about an AirBnB-style service for the homeless, it'd need to be low tech & there'd need to be safety checks t

Anyone got tips on payment gateways & merchant accounts outside of the US. I'd love to use chargify.com but getting a merchant account seems to be a PITA in Europe and I absolutely refuse to do any more business with PayPal.
