FWIW, I just did this two days ago with a Win11 machine that I set up solely for remote access. Created an MS account (because I want this machine to be as normal-user as possible), set up a PIN. Signed in with a PIN to the desktop, run &#x

Can you point me to the docs on that? As far as I knew the inReach is a data-only thing, even when paired to the phone.

Are you sure of that? I can find no info nor claims of inReach devices doing anything voice-wise, even when paired with a phone.

There was an old Samba book, from around the 1.0 days, that I read in 1997 which really made SMB click for me. Something about it's concise summaries of how browser elections and all worked, including how to configure Samba to work wit

...and that's exactly the problem. The result in Affinity Designer is akin to opening an unoptimized PDF. Decent, but not great.

Thanks! I'd love to hear that. A while back I thought about making my maps in QGIS, but found the stuff for styling the map just... lacking. It was a LOT easier to do what I wanted in Illustrator. But there was still the problem of get

So, I've been using Illustrator for years with an OSM -> Illustrator workflow where I start with OSM XML, feed it to osm2ai.pl, and then wholly style it by hand. It's... fine... but Illustrator's cost is getting to me. I g

I use two Adobe apps routinely: - Illustrator (for making PDF maps from OSM data). - Lightroom. It'll take a bit of work to move my workflow to Affinity, but I think I've got a solid plan for that. (No, Affinity Designer does not

Said friend of mine uses his van more like folks would tent camping; just for a day or three at a time. Or he'll sleep it in and shower at truck stops while driving cross country, but then have a destination where he stays at a rental

I believe this is because most folks who fancy themselves as vanlifers want to fulfill the idea of going off the grid, of disconnecting from infrastructure for a while. Electric doesn't really allow that because solar won't allow

A retired friend who recently picked up a nice camper van for travel mentions something rarely seen in the vanlife social media stuff: that most folks he's met doing the vanlife thing will stay for a few days in their van, then a few i

I looked into this a year ago when I bought a house and the previous owner had left two catalytic converters in the garage from old project cars. The conclusion I came to was that if I didn't look shady, the cats still had their mounti

Your second sentence is the position we're in. We were very fortunate to buy a house in a nice area a year ago. Right at the peak, but it was a fixer-upper from a friend, so we got a good deal and skipped a lot of fees/commissions

There hasn't been enough time. Mortgage rates have only been high (-ish, not really that high historically) for a matter of months. Home sales are down quite a bit, so people are now sitting on houses that are priced at old prices, but

This affects mortgage rates, but not housing prices. If anything, housing prices should decrease a bit as rates go up, since people tend to buy based on monthly payment which is house price + rate. Therefore, your down payment should be jus

Why would I want to use your company for buying an I-Bond myself? Treasury Direct kinda sucks, but it's really not that bad. And once you're through the initial setup repeat purchases (like each subsequent year) is a lot easier. W

I'm with you. After having a nice 5.1 system 20 years ago, and a space set up for it, I now have fallen back to nice 2.0 or 2.1 systems. Decent amp with a DAC to some quality speakers and a sub and poof: really great audio in a simple

Yep, exactly. Reactive is really not that bad, and most software to manage it can also have a preapproved whitelist of actions that automatically get elevated. It definitely takes planning and management and monitoring, but it can be done,

So a coworker suggested I try accessing my Plex instance by internal IP, not internal hostname. And that... worked. When using hostname, the way I always had for everything else, it'd show that I didn't have access to the server.

If the dropout faces rearward enough it'll still be effective. What needs to happen is the dropout needs to not allow the brake pad to be the pivot point for removal. But a rearward wheel removal path is problematic for other reasons:
