That last sentence struck me: “banannas that can't be given away made into bananna or baby formula.” This wasn’t in the US, was it?

You’re not thinking about any number of reasons that could have ruled that out in his mind. Top of the list? Visa problems.

When you buy a car, you buy it once. The dealer does not continuously give you the ability to run people over. When you post political ads, facebook runs them until your ad spend is done. When you run someone over, there's no question

And I think you stumbled upon the crux of the problem. I think we have a hard time grasping the fact that Monty not just picks one of the other two doors, but also specifically guarantees that it won't be the winning door. Without that

Wow. It’s not often you see making someone eat their own words executed so well. Professionally handled.

To be fair, Node is a hell of a useful tool, given the right context. Don’t pigeonhole it into a box just because the box that he tried to pigeonhole it into isn’t the right fit.

Sure. That's great. But where are the incentives to promote this "opportunity" to those who want to do so without net loss?

What setup are you considering using with the pi and speakers? I'm also interested in doing this, but haven't found a good OSS solution (yet).

Ask your manager what they think of your performance, where you could grow, how you're doing compared to what they expected. You'll likely be pleasantly surprised. Just like people with general insecurities frequently underestimat

Right. I think parent commenter hasn't read the article, and doesn't realize that these are _recycling_ companies, not just your average tech office with a blue bin in the snack room.

I don't think parent commenter is implying it has to be a commercial application. Imagine something released with little-to-no cost, with community-driven support and users that organically find the page. Not all services are commercia

10 page report, double spaced, size 12 font, Times New Roman? Hacker News is specifically _not_ a pure tech forum. Graciously, please don't force people to conform to what you wish it to be.

Would you agree with the following sentence? “Nothing unprofitable is worth wasting time on.”

Right, right, inheriting mansions from deceased ancestors, a highly frequent occurrence for the “little people.” Don’t worry, I don’t think we’ll see this apply to too many lower-income (aka little) people in America.

This is incredible. I can't believe it's happened so soon, putting people (especially such a stigmatized group) above profits really gives hope for the future of the country. Thanks for leading us in this, California.

Why not? It’s not as if you have an omniscient point of view and the ability to see the future of both branches. There will always be doubt about complex, unsolvable scenarios.

So then what’s the point of not being able to make those larger adjustments?

You can still implement this by updating the URL dynamically as you pass the (invisible) page delimiter. I’ve seen infinite scrolling news sites implement this.

Look at the theorem you linked. What is its point? Its “dictator” exists in majority vote as well, and is merely anyone who has not determined their vote yet in a close election, e.g. the “swing states.” Correct me if I’m misreading, but ho

Adding automation to this workflow seems like an exciting problem to solve! I’m interested in seeing how you end up dealing with inaccuracies that arise in a almost-safety-critical operation. E.g, in your example, returning at 9 (even ignor
