$0.05 for both generation _and_ transmission charges? I would have expected that to be more like $0.09 or $0.10 for Florida... Still a good bit better than MA, of course. :)

Just for comparison, where I am (Massachusetts) it's $0.23/kWh or so for residential service.

It really depends. If your mortgage is big enough (over 750k as of the last tax bill, which is not that uncommon in some real estate markets) or small enough (so you don't itemize your tax deductions; that roughly corresponds to mortga

Recovering heat from a dryer is not trivial: the output air from a dryer has a bunch of lint in it (yes, even with the lint filter in there!), so either your heat exchanger or the filter in front of it or both will get clogged pretty regula

The relevant code in fact uses a non-STL array container. Unfortunately, the performance of the STL containers is fairly unreliable across C++ standard library implementations and can be very poor in some cases. That makes them harder tha

The density gradient is not really that important. You could do this with a car filled with water and a cork instead of a balloon, and the effect would be the same, even though the density gradient in water would be pretty darn close to ze

The article mentions why they couldn't use canvas for this: they are running this code in a worker, and canvas support in workers is not great in browsers so far.

Thank you for the link. Per that document, page 29, there are ~370k jobs in solar, yes. But there are ~160k jobs in coal, ~360k jobs in natural gas, and ~515k jobs in oil. Plus the ~36k jobs in "advanced gas", whatever that is.

For what it's worth, most of the jobs "in solar" are installers. Very much blue collar (also, fairly dangerous work). Agreed with the rest of your points.
