I wrote a userscript to do this if you're interested: https://code.byuu.org/google It blocks search and image results by pattern, and also removes the URL tracker wrapping wherever possible.

All I can think is what a liability nightmare that would be in the US if a pharmacist made a bad call. For both the pharmacist and the company that employed them.

This has caused me quite a bit of trouble with my image gallery as well, I've taken to just using exiftool to remove all rotation from my photos, which breaks half of them, and then manually hard-rotating them using ImageMagick, which

Correct. And since the scrambling XOR pattern is known, it's possible to burn a disc that ends up being all zeroes or ones post-scrambling anyway. I'm told such sectors tend to be unreadable, but I haven't tried it.

That is exactly what I need, but unfortunately the post is from 2004, and he didn't link to that precious sample of data =( Still, some very interesting info there. It looks like if and when I get this data, I may need a follow-up arti

I feel we're already reaching a point where game preservation for older systems like Mega CD and PC Engine CD really need to have multiple rips that then weigh all the rips to try and correct for individual errors in each rip. In fact

Emulator development has cross-sections across many diverse fields of computer science, and I'm trying to share my experiences with all of them. If anyone here has suggestions for future articles for my site, I'm all ears ^-^ Whil

Stop worrying about 9-bit bytes, only logical shift right for signed integers, ones-complement and sign-bit integers, etc and define this stuff in the standard. PDP-11 was a long time ago. C++20 is heading in the right direction with defini

In my line of software work, I needed variable-precision integers (think uint5_t, uint13_t, etc) to express details of the architecture cleanly and avoid lots of manual bit-masking, which naturally meant having to use templates. I found tha

Tengai Makyou Zero (SPC7110 + RTC-4513) suffered much longer, and the fan translation of it even longer still. Absolutely worth the wait though.

My favorite bragging point: the code in the necdsp folder (and the CPU core itself at component/processor/upd96050) there was used by Stephen Hawking when they emulated his old voice machine that used the same chip. http:/&#

I've not been enjoying trying to manage topics via GitHub issues, so I'm thinking about reopening a development-only forum without any of the general discussions, but things are still a bit in flux as I build up the new site. It w

The latter. I support this, but it does no good when no one uses the format. The most prominent databasing effort will not include any additional files. Not even metadata, they're missing the coprocessor firmware required to play games

A combination of two things: one, I redesigned my site from PHP and raw HTML articles to C++ and Markdown articles, and didn't want to update all of them to the new format. Two, I feel I was a bit too confrontational and opinionated wi

I very much agree. My vision was a ZIP file that when selected in an emulator, could be extracted for instant access, and any save RAM, cheat codes, save states, etc could be stored alongside the game in said folder. It would be bundled wit

That is correct. Every cartridge on every system can do this, if you don't care about the cartridge potentially being oversized. There is no reason you couldn't put a Raspberry Pi Zero inside of an NES cartridge. You would just ne

Indeed, every approach has significant trade-offs. I've even had it non-jokingly suggested to provide netlists of the game cartridges. But well, that's great if you don't mind your SNES emulator never reaching 60fps. And good

That's not a bad idea. When I was restoring older articles on my new site's CMS Markdown format, I stopped at around 2016, but I could go back to older ones.

I'm currently in the middle of a higan GUI rewrite, and I'd be most happy to get some feedback! It's really difficult because we can't simplify things that would break edge cases on other systems.

Also on this list: write your own toy programming language, even if it's just an interpreter that builds ASTs. Nothing broadened my view of computer programming more than that.
