The higher ranks of the profession are still the bearers of all the keys. We will probably go all Luddite and smash the tools before this happens.

Here I sit on an 8 core Xeon with 32Gb of RAM and Firefox and it's so slow that it's unusable... I prefer clean, static documentation (like: http://docs.python.org/ )

Not really. I prefer written words as the content is easier to scan through. Video is almost laborious watching.

You think? They already blew it with the Data Retention Directive[1] - what makes you think that they'll bend on this? [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Retention_Directive

How does this fit in with an open source model? Surely you can just extract the keys/license without reverse engineering anything then? It's daft.

I'll give you that. It's one of the reasons I don't have the flash plugin installed.

I get the feeling this isn't going to be that much of a problem. I've not got the flash plugin installed in Firefox and I'm not finding any great hardship these days. Perhaps it'll kill Flash a bit quicker considering the amount of Kiosks a

At the risk of sounding like a Microsoft shill (I'm not), you can already have your cake and eat it if you use Windows Workflow on top of AppFabric. It has an arguably better feature set (including extensive transaction, correlation, failov

It's books like that (I've read all three) which bring the luddite in me out. I'm all for computers helping us perform tasks but sometimes things go a little too far.

They need to look like they're doing something for the elite or they'd lose their political sponsorship. Seriously though, it's not going to change a thing. You can't kill an idea.

I think Canonical are going to die if they keep on the crack pipe as much as recently. This is a fine example of it. Customers and users are dropping like flies already. I don't know anyone now who hasn't bailed on then and gone with mint,

I tend to avoid that as inevitably when someone has to use the variable, it's a bugger to work out what to type unless you're a unicode whizz. I'd use "theta" instead.

Never underestimate the power of "good enough". Apache is "good enough" for most people. NGINX or Node.js really don't bring much new to the table of "good enough". It's why plan 9 isn't as popular as it probably should be. UNIX was good en

It does take years. The brain is very pliable and easy to teach the younger you are so it depends on when you start. I'm not much of a polyglot myself: English, French, Swiss-German, Afrikaans (mainly the insults!) but my sister can speak 8

I can't say I've ever experienced this. Are you sure it's not your AV software interfering with Mesh? I use Security Essentials on any Windows machines if that is a comparison point.

That's not true. Any DNLA client works as well. In my case a Bravia EX series. I can right click and "play to Bravia" on any media file and browse my media from the TV unit.
