   I think people just don't know any better. I also used Ollama way longer than I should have. I didn't know that Ollama was just llama.cpp with a thin wrapper. My quality of life improved a lot after I discovered llama.cpp.

   I just use llama.cpp server. It works really well. Some people recommend llama-swap or kobold but I never tried them.

   this looks ok on paper, but isn't realized in reality. ollama is full of bugs, problems and issues llama.cpp has solved ages ago. this thread is a good example of that.

    The problem is that compilers are really bad at automatically adding SIMD instructions. We need better, smarter compilers that abstract this out.

    This is exactly what I mean by gaslighting. GGML is llama.cpp. It it developed by the same people as llama.cpp and powers everything llama.cpp does. You must know that. The fact that you are ignoring it very dishonest.

    The PR was in good shape. Ollama devs ignored it, and the original author rebased it multiple times. Since Ollama devs don't care, he just gave up after a while. Ollama is in a very sad state. The project is dysfunctional.

    More than one year in and Ollama still doesn't support Vulkan inference. Vulkan is essential for consumer hardware. Ollama is a failed project at this point: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42886680

    This kind of gaslighting is exactly why I stopped using Ollama. GGML library is llama.cpp. They are one and the same. Ollama made sense when llama.cpp was hard to use. Ollama does not have value preposition anymore.

    Inference is getting cheaper by the minute, because hardware is getting cheaper and also because smarter ideas like latent attention are spreading.
