   CenturyLink ONTs are set up to do the bare minimum. Think bridge mode. No NAT. There is a separate CPE router to terminate one end of the PPPoE connection and do NAT as required.

   Sure. But you have a slight problem with ABI stability, at least in Rust, if you ever want to compile an ABI compatible replacement library. Until that problem is resolved, if you want to make a useful replaceable object you need to make
