It’s about scale. Google was built for an order of magnitude greater scale where such reliability of a single link would be cost prohibitive. However in general if you need high uptime, you’ll need multiple peering links. AWS and azure also

Fei-Fei Li did not do an amazing job while leading Google Cloud’s AI/ML efforts. Why should she be a speaking authority here.

Normal payment processors don’t need to maintain the os ecosystem. Arguably Google needs to do the same work as a traditional payment processor AND much more.

Hundreds of millions of UNPROFITABLE ARR and only through spending many billions. Apple has rarely been first to market with technology. However they often are first to have a cohesive user experience that integrates it in.

A coup wouldn't have him immediately fired. Instead he'd be placed in some advisory position while they transition in a new CEO. The immediate firing means scandal of some sort.

Except the high value jobs is in support of low value areas. Of which if those are outside your country then you are hosed. For example google extracts value from sellers. If those sellers themselves sell product made and developed in china

Eh, if you give more Ram developers will just take advantage of it. Realistically perf headroom just gets eaten up on shitty code and abstraction layers. Ever notice how word is always the same slow-ish speeds. Never really faster.

Future money is cheaper than current money. The approach totally works in a low rate environment. But as rates get higher in relationship to inflation expectations it becomes unsustainable

No need as s3 objects is your dead letter queue and the system should be designed anyway to coupe with multiple write of same event. The point is to only use s3 etc in the event of system instability. Not as a primary data transfer means.

Seems like overkill no? Otel collectors are fairly cheap, why add expensive Kafka into the mix. If you need to buffer why not just dump to s3 or similar data store as a temporary storage array.
