Let me tell you, if you want to meet women just check out the CS labs at your local college... Oh wait, exactly the opposite of that.

In fact, I see "bro-ing" to be a defence against "nerd culture". I assert the only reason it has become popular is because of that other end of the spectrum.

Oh certainly, I fully agree. I think I'm just saying that I think logging is going to be one of those things, for better or worse, that most developers look at and do the mental calculus of "It's a good idea, but do I want to go out on a

> "Shouldn't you use the best tool for the job, not the one you happen to know?" Well, 'best' in this case should be determined by combining a number of factors. Certainly technological superiority should be weighted quite heavily, b

Accelerando, by Charles Stross (a HN'er actually!) Features asteroid mining, expansion through the solar system in the quest to find more matter to turn into computronium, and some people becoming obscenely rich in the process. I wouldn't d

Not that I disagree with your conclusion, but increasing the actual supply doesn't necessarily have to wreak havoc on the economy if limited number of distributors are willing to control the release of the supply (which could be considered

The trick with stereotypes is that you don't have to opt-in for people to apply them to you. Be an individual... and people will still stereotype you.

I am not so quick to blame the people who call themselves that. Sure, some 'brogrammers' are sexist pigs who lack self awareness, but I get a strong feeling that the majority of them are just regular smoes who are looking to avoid the alte

The desire to not go to jail is stronger than the desire to not kill someone? I know when I slow down for pedestrains I'm thinking about not hitting people, not not going to jail. Maybe I give others too much credit.

What I really don't understand is this obsession some people seem to have with jailing people for a mistake that will already haunt them for the rest of their lives.

I bike regularly and trust me, these sorts of things vary a good deal between people. In my overly warm 70F office I feel like I need a shower halfway through the day anyway. There is no way in hell I'd bike for an hour or more before tha
