Thats really not how it works. Content providers like that ideal but it's incorrect. It never has operated that way. I pay for a connection and a device. I don't pay for an advertising subsidy. If you choose to use advertising as

I love the mantra of "the web is supported by advertising" that every one of these sorts of articles at least quotes. It's not. Shitty business models are supported by advertising. There are plenty of us who provide non-adver

I drag a Nikon D3100 everywhere. I've had some amazing shots from that even though it's a cheap DSLR. 50mm Nikor DX lens keeps it light. Even the best phones make a poor camera. Laggy, awful dynamic range, awful autofocus and unpr

I always run a per incident charge for defects (outside a 6 month approval window) and requote for features. Per incident charge is relatively high to dissuade people from filing lots of trivial things and actually QA it in the approval win

I'm not sure its that excellent a world. We went from this to a mix of massive broken ISA like x86, piles of firmware, EFI, SecureBoot and then when you actually organise all the turtles to point the right way, a GDT, IDT to set up. Ug

Similar in experience here. I bought an X201 a few years ago. I fed it an SSD when they made finincial sense and a new 9-cell battery once a year when the capacity drops to ~60%. I wear out a keyboard every 3 years or so which is a 5 minute

An apt analogy. Many architectures are marketing driven. It scares me exactly how often this is bought into by short sighted people who rank highly and want a week off for training. I'm currently dealing with a proverbial balls up whic

With respect to cross cutting concerns, your domain is fractured into something with temporal concerns i.e. events and a timeline. That doesn't reduce complexity, merely move it elsewhere and change the context to something unfamiliar.

Some quick points on DDD/CQRS/Event sourcing from my perspective. I've been involved in a project and have a number of concerns: Firstly, the main drivers of this i.e. Greg Young/Udi Dahan/Particular are trying to s

Of course. However DC kit has a long history of fail. Even old sun kit would drop to the monitor if you yanked the console cable. This on one occasion killed an entire e4500 cluster we had running oracle which failed over and then resumed c
