Not that Java doesn't have overhead, but quite a bit of the slow down for minecraft servers is caused by bad algorithms (N^2 type stuff) and data structures.

My fault for insinuating the housing crash was an example of hording. Clearly it was not. I meant that sentence as a critique for the statement in the article that the free market necessarily produces a rational investment.

That article is not too compelling. It talks more about a group of people recognizing a good idea over the original inventors. Sure it took capital to make it a valuable consumer product, but that is hardly a defense of hording large amount

In this context, money is effectively unlimited. Not sure why people are ok with allowing unlimited funding of campaigns by individuals or corporations while on the other hand accepting similar contributions for anything but a campaign is a

However, unlike money, time is limited. No one person can contribute more than 24 hours in a single day.

Of course regex is appropriate in some cases. You parse XML with a standard API, then use a regex on the contents of a single tag. For all we know, inside the tag could have been "img: foobar", regex works great in that case.

40 years ago, global cooling was a media fairy tale. It had little scientific backing.

Years ago I found the source of my troubles which took longer than it should have because Tomcat had an empty catch around InterruptedException with a "this will never happen" comment.

Washington was certainly against the idea of parties, but I'm not sure the rest of the framers' had a specific desire to avoid parties. The two party system developed very quickly with the federalists and anti-federalists.

Again you need to look at more than the cost of hardware, that's not the issue. More data requires more managing; performance, backup, failures, etc

Hardware cost is hardly the only cost. Managing a few GBs of data is quite a bit different than managing 100s of GBs or more of data.

Yes all those options work. But why remove a common method of navigation? In addition, the format makes it impossible to search for text within the presentation.

Noonan hasn't woken up; it's her same trash as always. She conveniently ignores that these groups were going for non-profit status. They were not being prosecuted. They were trying to forgo taxes when quite possibly under the law

I haven't played Ultracorps, but the game Diplomacy works in a similar fashion. All moves occur simultaneously. Makes for a great war game, much better than Risk.

At least with software you can rollback, not exactly something that works with hardware. A year may seem like a long time, but to test all the ramifications of something that sounds simple like a higher resolution camera is not an easy prob

Xbox 360 is a huge success based on number sold. Is it based on money made? I know they had massive hardware failure and their warranty costs were through the roof. I do not know the dollar figures.

Firebug has the option to show XHRs inline with the console. Also, in chrome console.dir prints the object collapsed. I find it annoying to have to expand the object in the console when clearly I want to see the object's properties.
