How would you write this without exception handling, how would that make it any easier? Perhaps do not put the entire loop in the try catch, but just the single iteration.

Discussions about performance are statements of fact and can be measured. A jsperf shows that code executing in a try catch for chrome on a mac can be up to 3% slower for me[1]. Let's just get the numbers and show them and if they're valid

So exceptions are about where in a file your code is? You can put your code anywhere with functions and modules, packages whatever.

A lot can happen when you click a link. You download content like images, run plugins, open up third party apps (like iTunes or a chat client). You render images, you can start the hardware accelerated canvas stuff. You're downloading all o

You gotta be kidding on the sideways text as an important part of the UI. Also adding the vim integration is a waste of time as long as you don't have buffers, registers, ranges and can't parse my .vimrc nor use my modules you might as well

I wish ag were on linux boxes by default. Every time I instinctively try to search via ag and am denied I wince as I type in grep instead. :(

Until this company has reached the size required to hire enough lawyers to easily squash wrongful death suits with intimidation and endless court appeals on a regular basis I doubt I will feel safe enough to ride in one.

> "C lacks good memory management" C lets you manage memory without possibly inefficient or even broken magical black box automated processes or garbage collectors. Maybe what the author meant to say was "C lacks easy memory management.

Freedom of speech seems to be very important to you but you do not seem to understand it well. YouTube is not a product of the government.

That's not actually a bad thing, YouTube comments are very bad and anything they can do to improve that is OK, including requiring a real name.

'regions' sounds like you want software generated code...which sounds more like maybe you need to think about your architecture/process a little more. You can generate code with a build step.

Anyone still willing to change editors has not yet put much of a worthwhile investment of time in a good one. Choosing an editor is probably a lot like finding a soulmate.

I worry more about the quality of my comprehension than the speed at which I read. I"d rather take ages and get a good understanding than speed up the pace at which I read. Depth over breadth any time. In product features, in overall unders

Yes this is not the same thing. Grunt rebuilds everything for tasks, and does not selectively build only targets that have had dependencies change. Make doesn't require any kind of running process for this.

The problem with grunt is that it doesn't detect if files have changed, it therefore does not replace ant, make, scons or any of the other build tools that don't build things that don't need to be built.

Eh, being able to understand stacks and queues, big-O, etc and problem solving are important things, but otherwise agree that software construction skills are important as well as understanding tradeoffs bottlenecks, networking etc.

I saw someone in a store with those glasses and I had to say I felt a bit weirded out by the thought they could be recording things. Does it indicate to other people if it is recording? These things are going to run into some social issues

My comment was more about the company, and less so about the people. Mass layoffs with severance does not portray the situation as employees choosing to leave.

That was an honest question more than a complaint. Why do CoffeeScript libraries not use the coffee extension? For broader appeal? Even if you had JavaScript documentation, I would see the source was written in CoffeeScript and realize I ca

Why not call it hexagonal.coffee? Why do CoffeeScript libraries get a .js extension? Yes I realize it works for JavaScript too, but it's weird to go see a library with *.js in the name and then to find only CoffeeScript in the documentation

We use graylog for logging plus a client side logging script, and that gives us a lot of information. User id + agent + plus time they loaded the the site + any client errors they got.
