I like doing writing work (wordperfect) on my old machines (286-486 era). It's the one task that I find is actually better on these old machines. My Model-M keyboard is better for typing, there are less distractions and I prefer look

I can tell you why I hate them... explanations are usually incomplete or wrong in some cases. Examples often use antiquated browser code when the answer should just be vanilla JS. They don't use best practices... like ever. They don

I was looking at one of these at the dealership in the early 2000's and the sales guy told me I could just hose it out after a day at the beach. It seemed plausible considering there was no carpeting and the seats could be folded up.

Godot, hands down. It's incredible and is close to releasing version 4.0 which has massive 3d improvements, if that's your thing. Documentation is 1st rate and the community is the best I've seen for game dev.

I've done non-trivial projects in Phaser and Godot... I thought I would never prefer an editor oriented engine (after trying Unity), but I've done a complete 180* on that. Managing game objects and their inheritance tree in the

And much of this is to convince governments to not go open source. This kind of behavior is part of Microsoft's DNA.

This was my overall thought as well. When I get myself into the type of trouble he's describing, it's usually because I either designed the effect poorly or it's simply doing too much. I also find that I'm abstracting c

I was coming to say exactly this. This is just a criticism of someone not familiar with the Mac ecosystem. I use Moom myself and it's been perfectly adequate for my (Macbook) needs.

Windows doesn't need to change a single thing, it's just doing it's thing and it's been doing it for ages. There are actually viable alternatives these days if you don't like it. Windows has always been an inferior

I completely agree, but solders have to follow orders whether they like it or not. Russian commanders may have a problem reassuring them that they are not going to the slaughter, so efforts like this may give some level of encouragement.

Would you be comfortable operating a Russian tank in this war? These things are getting destroyed almost indiscriminately by drone attacks and javelins. I can only speculate the true reason for this augmentation, but my hunch is, indeed,

I get what you are saying, and you are right stuff is sensationalized, but there is video of the facility getting shelled. The fire didn't start itself. People need to be anxious about this shit. The sad part is that we don't n

For first world issues, this is terrible. I love Bandcamp and love supporting artists there. Epic is a scourge.

If my country, unprovoked, invaded a sovereign nation and threatened any intervening countries with a nuclear response, I would be out in the fucking streets. The people in Russia doing this are heroic, but more need to be doing it.

It's actually a terrible article that has no relevance in 2022, and it is even misleading for 2018 standards.

I don't understand your issues here. I built a community app for a hockey league that manages around 120,000 players in the DB. I do tons of loading, sorting and various algorithms on the data. I've never once had React be my b

This is really interesting. I'm happy the author covered the effects side of things because this is where I've had some challenges with non-trivial React apps. Sometimes effects can be very complicated and result in React gettin

Youtubers and tech sites get devices for free, play with them for a week and give rave reviews. The rest of us have to live with the device for years worth of wear and tear. What could possibly go wrong with bendy screens?

I would personally leave this kind of testing to the pros, like Phoronix, Gamers Nexus, etc. LTT is a facade for useful performance testing and understanding of hardware issues.

I've been running it on my primary nvme drive for the past year and have had no issues and performance has been surprisingly good. Raid for a high-end nvme drive is a bit out of my budget.

I'm fine with GUI tools, I use them too. I just like the CLI for lots of things that I do. I write lots of scripts for various tasks, set them up as startup scripts or cron jobs and I'm done. GUIs are terrible for automation.
