When I was a teenager I was really hoping that when I grew up I would stop being sleepy in the morning and then becoming wide awake around 11pm. Hasn’t changed at all. Everyone’s got some way that society doesn’t work for them though. Being

My granddad died surrounded by his loved ones, pretty peacefully really (he was jacked up on morphine). I know you mean alone in a kind of existential way, but at the end of the day I've learned that if you have that depressing outlook

I've never understood why these shortenings are so common. Is it just to avoid the mental load of having to remember how to spell long words? Isn't the mental load of having to remember which number goes with which word worse?

Another cool crowdsourced thing I discovered recently is SponsorBlock [1] which is an extension to automatically skip sponsored content in Youtube videos. Users contribute timings to the database that everyone else uses. It works remarkably

I literally read the title as moon, because that’s what my brain expected the 4 letter word beginning with ‘m’ after the words ‘Neil Armstrong’ to be. I was wondering what on earth was interesting about this post!

Pretty much all my favorite games of all time are indie games. Video games as a medium seem to be really, really well suited to passion projects, and I can’t explain why. None of my favorite movies are indie movies. Very little of my favori

For a closer analogy, chess engines have 1000+ elo points on the top grandmasters, and professional chess has never been more popular.

Competitive chess is still alive and well despite computers being better than humans for decades now. In fact, computers enhance chess by allowing the discovery of interesting lines that a human would never have thought of. Professionals us

> longevity into one's 90s as a bad thing Absolutely agree. The only way it's worth it to increase lifespan is to increase healthspan at the same time. Currently, most medicine seems to focus on the former.

When reading stuff like this I often think “so what”? All of the above is true, but life is still fun. I’m glad I was born into this absurdity.

An easy (and fun) way to get better at vim and learn some of its features is to play vimgolf [1]. After you submit you can see solutions which are slightly better than yours, and run them through to see what each command does. [1] http:&#x

You’re missing the “install python” step. Oh and probably you should be using a package manager to do it so figure out which one’s on your system first and learn its interface. Oh and it’s best practice to create projects in a virtualenv so

You could try using the official WireGuard app rather than Mullvad’s. Just generate a WireGuard config on Mullvad’s website, and you should be able to import that no problem.

I’ve realised recently how much of conspiracy theories are wishful thinking - theorists actually desperately want them to be true. It’s comforting to imagine there’s a reason things happen in the world.
