Thank you - confirmed. I just dug up a copy of Flash CS6 and tried this: var val : String = "foo"; var foo : XML = <foo><bar prop={val} /></foo>; ...and it worked. I swear this wasn't do

I always found it a little odd but quite pleasant - but I don't at all remember AS3's E4X having interpolation. Did I just never know about this feature (or have since forgotten - it's been, oh, half a decade at least since

It's funny, I started reading this thinking "Ah, how nice they all are" quite sincerely (especially the gifts from Google and Codefresh - though I suppose you could interpret those a bit cynically if you put your mind to it..

How do they find the time... That said, from a quick perusal of the landing page, I have precious little idea what this is for, and equally little inclination to watch a two minute introductory video.

While I don't much like software developers calling themselves engineers either, it was hard not to read this and think that about a week ago I was reading all about a dam that seemed poised to fail and thousands of people had to be ev

If you take nothing else from this, just take the bonus advice, which Thomas and Patrick have been flogging here for years. It really is just true. If you bill hourly, people will attempt to attain an intimate knowledge of the comings and

OK, I'm completely baffled by this. Am I the only one who thinks taking your young children on a conference call is somewhere between totally unprofessional and, well, very annoying? I get that your children are your priority - but s

Yes, I've sort of half-heartedly considered this, without really exploring the idea very fully. Can you - or anyone else - recommend such a service? All they would really need to do is reach out to customers to check tallies on their

Invoicing. I sell a product that customers use on many of their own projects, and each project of theirs means one invoice for me. I can solve some of this with automation, and I will get around to doing this, but it will remain hard to

I completely missed the excitement of being downvoted, sadly! You're probably right, though I find saying anything negative about remote work on HN tends also to get a less than stellar reception.

I also think there's a lot to be said for the routine of the "dad job". For many people, it's comforting to have structure in one's life, for every day to follow a similar pattern; surprises are stressful, and wh

Money is great for solving problems where the problem relies on needing money (as David Mamet put it, "Everybody needs money. That's why they call it money"). After a certain point, however, the problems you are left with ar

Or write in a way that's light, friendly, and engaging. Not everyone wants something that's "fast and efficient" and information-dense, perhaps especially not people taking a beginner's course on HTML and CSS.
