Here's the problem with your comment: It's not one sided. As you point out, "Point of View is worth 80IQ points". The more productive point of view is external to both the product people and the engineer. IMHO, I think it's wrong to think

I'm continually frustrated by the false dichotomy presented by the mainstream media between "government cut spending"/"government spend more/go into debt". Clearly another option is central bank bail out. I can accept that some people don'

I wish this had been a root level comment (so it would be more visible). I think this is by far the most plausible explanation especially if you think about human history and technology differences. Imagine our current spy agencies with bl

The post sounds like a rant when it really should be a glowing review (if it truly was a "Great Movie") and some recommendations for improvement. Get over it. There are many better things in life to focus your energy on.

I think I read about MQL a couple of years ago. I like it a lot. Not sure how/if it fits into the REST paradigm.

While I like the standardization afforded by REST, I frequently run into some artificial limitations that are imposed on the different request methods. For example, I find that I would frequently like to pass structure information in a GET

Programmers in successful startups (like the ones producing the demos you mention) ignore what people tell them that they can't do. They just try and they get something done. Then they iterate as long as "the demo's ui sucks" is the numbe

Vibe could address some of these concerns (and maybe already has done so) by encrypting the communications and blurring the time and the gps coordinates in the client prior to sending the data. Then server logs and network logs wouldn't li

If government wants to create jobs, they need to encourage businesses to create new value (by paying them to create that value). Employers will then hire people to create the value (and pay them (after skimming enough profit off the top to

I've been debugging plenty of distributed/parallel processing systems by trace statements. It's not trivially easy, but its not too bad (its actually kind of fun). In fact, I'm not exactly sure how you would debug a multi-process paralle

I find analyzing trace statements to be far faster than setting conditional break points and stepping through a debugger. I can quickly run a test, grep/skim through the trace output and ignore/drill down into detailed minutia that are irre

I would be nice if this was done in terms of MIME Types. Perhaps similar to the "Accept" header in HTTP (though in this case the invoker is telling the program (aka server) what types it would like). Of course this only solves the parsing

I've explored similar concepts. In particular I've found it rather powerful to be able to export/import code refs with: use YAML::Syck; $YAML::Syck::UseCode = 1; Watch out though, when you take executable code from a user.

Almost all bad estimates are due to a lack of information. In software development, the information that tends to be missing are the particulars of the task being estimated (which code needs to be modified, in what way). This missing info

So, here's the link to the actual referenced report: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/03/15/apple_ios_throttles_... IMO, it doesn't add much to the discussion except for this nugget at the very end of the article: "This developer reitera

Does anyone here use this and have a recommendation on platform? My preference is Linux, MaxOS and Windows (in that order). But if not all platforms work equally well, I may reconsider.
