Pick a big company in this market (perhaps SAP) and start learning everything you can about them. Read their marketing pages and try to understand what they are selling and to whom. What problem do they think their customers have that the

I think programming may be a bit harder because (at the end of the day) it becomes an engineering problem (one of efficient resource utilization). A program certainly has to be correct, but it also must run effectively on reasonably sized

I'd rather spend the effort generating code (UPDATE: and I do mean generating, not writing) than writing tests (presumably I could be generating tests at the same time). But there are enough people on the TDD train that there must be somet

Thanks. I expect my sessions to be longer (30 minutes?). And if I were only expecting hundreds of users, I wouldn't waste my time. I'm hoping to hit at least tens of thousands of registered paying users. I do expect to have portions of

Thanks, I suspect that my site will have rather long sessions (30 minutes?). I plan on supporting anonymous, free, and paid users. I suspect that most of the users will be anonymous and/or free (I'm considering advertising for some of the

I've noticed a similar conceptual pattern while investigating meta-programming. I think there's something fundamental going on here. Something that conventional programming constantly misses. Something remarkably simple, consistent and p

Just reading the title, I thought "oh cool, an article on anybots". But, yup that was the point. No one knows. hehe... yeah, a year ago I polled a couple of co-workers on when we would have self-driving cars. One said 50 years, one said

I think IP and TCP/UDP work pretty well... seems like they messed up a bit on the size of the address space. That's what I would call the "internet" (along with some general services, e.g. DNS). Sounds like you are talking more about HTTP

Kinda surprised there was no mention of anybots. I think the general populace is going to be shocked at how quick some major changes happen in the near future.

I guess I could do all that (truth be told, my C's a bit rusty for a prompt answer). How 'bout: $echo -n "YC" > foo $hd foo 00000000 59 43 |YC| 00000002 Yeah, I know, perhaps 435

I think many enterprise managers have a philosophically hard time with this notion. And for some business models, perhaps they are correct to be concerned. In general, I think async with error correction mechanisms is the way to go.

I disagree with "isn't all that special". I've worked with it too. It's a PBX/ACD/IVR all in one. That's huge. Get these bundled together from a commercial vendor and you are paying through the nose on a per seat basis. Yeah, it's about

Excellent! hmmm... version 1.0.0-beta. Am I the only one a bit nervous basing a start-up on something this fresh? I'd certainly like to contribute to open source, but in a post launch, here's a toolkit/library sort of way, not by debug

I think effectively sharing information is much harder in a desktop application. See browsers have this standard communication protocol ;) that desktop applications tend to lack.

I think it will... and I think it will blind-side the general populace when we get there. I actually think our hardware is already sufficient for this (obviously not one computer, but a large network of them). I think it's mostly a softwar

I agree with the author, Unicode seems like it should be right in the core of a language, but I'm incredibly sympathetic to not wanting to spend even a day on the issue. I also am incredibly grateful for any open source released (I feel lik
