IDK if this is new or not, but I just checked out my account settings page and it now includes this (default unchecked) > Automatically add a Google+ page to my circles if I search for + followed by the page's name.

A simple solution to this would be to not use facebook icons for your first click image. So maybe a simple 'social share' icon that brings up all the sharing options and at the same time loads the traditional facebook like button.

You can greatly decrease your load by making each thread link-able and then linking to each, not displaying _all_ of them each time.
