So, this is a total anecdote, but I recently moved to Tokyo from SF, and while I don't think it's necessarily more expensive to live here, I wouldn't say it's a bargain by any measure. My rent is comparable to what I pai

Isn't this generally the same ruling that allows land owners to shoot trespassers? After hearing about drones with batteries dying falling out of the sky and taking out a child's eye [1], I wouldn't want some random person co

Does anyone else find it extremely disturbing that one of the examples they provide for "things you believe not because of logic [thus, it's objectively true], but because other people told you to" is "Human life is a pr

I agree with this so much, but at the same time I acknowledge that his is at least in part due to how quickly the FE landscape changes and my inability to keep 100% up to date and equally effective. jQuery was simple to use, and that's

I'll never understand how this is not unusual. I make decent money and could offer my portion of the 300-400k total, but every girl I've dated out here is making < 40k/year. Is there a TechMeetDoctor dating site I'm m

I think that actually for performance reasons (for an entire system, not just a web page) it's reasonable to require JavaScript to be enabled. For example, having a page that provides 90% of the information statically (potentially to a

This is legit cool, especially after seeing the new Oculus touch come out (also cool, but requires so much external gear that I'd be hard pressed to buy). Only downside I see is in regards to not having something physical to grip/

I agree. It's interesting to see some countries start experimenting with a base income for all residents, though I think if this becomes widespread we'll simply see the base cost of living increase to that number. I hope we can pu

I used to work on anti-cheat software for online video games for a time, and it was always interesting to see some cheats include full-fledged windowing systems (and even scripting) just like this example code. Ah, nostalgia...

Personally, I would rather see the first version with better variable names. I always find that map() methods tend to obscure the purpose of the values whereas a simple appears more explicit.

One thing that I'm really surprised about is the lack of empathy that companies and teams feel with this. I've been hiring engineers for a few years now and from _my_ perspective, age has never been a consideration. That does not

I don't recall ever enabling this but this is enabled already for me. (note that not recalling doesn't mean I never enabled it, however it would have had to have been fairly inconspicuously for me to "opt-in")
