I don't interpret that as hypocritical. Whether legality equates to morality doesn't matter. If you get caught, there can be serious consequences (legal penalties, kicked out of schools, etc.. all depending of course on the circum

There are some places, I'm not sure how common but my guess would be "rather common", where it's illegal to have > x (where x is usually 2-4) amount of non-related people living in the same residence. This exists wher

The first words of the website: "sbt is a build tool". I couldn't understand not grasping the benefits/differences of sbt in comparison to other build tools, especially if you're new to the JVM world, but I don'

I agree with the first two points about ML, but I'm curious where you've had problems using Scala's case classes as you would ML's discriminate unions (minus the added verbosity)?

As other posters have noted, there are some advance Scala features being used here. It's almost important to note that this talk was given at Scala Days, a conference for Scala programmers, so presumably the target audience is all read

I think he meant more generally. ARC, as a general algorithm, has killed the need for garbage collection, as a general algorithm anywhere. As supposed to what you're saying: ARC, Apple's implementation of ARC, has persuaded Apple to

Where does this leave MonoMac? http://www.mono-project.com/MonoMac states that Xamarin.Mac has broader API coverage; does this mean MonoMac will continue to be developed, but just remain as a (free) subset with LGPL portions?

It does matter. In many corporate environments you don't have free reign to install/buy any software you'd like (and that's suppose to be the draw to the developer, lots of potential customers). App Store type developers are most likely dra

I cannot speak to jandrewrogers specific reason, but the two major sticking points I've seen developers hit is the STL's bad allocator design and the lack of intrusive data structures. Check out EASTL for more information [1][2]. [1] http:

You're right that method invocations aren't simply a table lookup or pointer dereference, but in the end it boils down to a jump to the address of some all ready compiled (machine) code which is what I was trying to make a point of. For C#,

To be fair, their still is a difference between Objective-C and C# and Java (which the OP was trying to contrast). Dynamically dispatched (i.e. a table look-up or pointer dereference) doesn't change the fact that the callee (the method to b
