The interesting takeaway for me is that Steve recognizes Apple's weaknesses (not being able to sell into the "enterprise") and is laser-focused on the consumer market. Seems to have paid off.

That seems too naive. We all know that Wall Street are full of crooks and are colluding with the government. Any of the directors involved in the mortgage bust served any jail time?

Apple may be laying the groundwork for specialized multicore processors on mobile handsets. Take the just-released Macbook Pros for example. nVidia's Optimus has controls at the application-level whereas Apple's technology is at the library

Well that's because we as users have been conditioned to make a copy of a document whenever an edit is required. What should've been taught, from the very beginning, is that we really should be working on versions of the original document.

Dropbox is your friend. It works on all major platforms and even on the iPhone. re: tethering, I'm outside the US of A, and iPhone tethering works fine. So this particular rant at Apple is misdirected.

Another vote for ChartDirector. The support forum is really active and the library itself has been licensed for use in a large number of commercial software.

If it were possible to reach as far back as the introduction of the GUI, I'd be willing to bet that the same thing was being said by people who were most familiar with the CLI. "What is this GUI thing? What good is it for? What can it do th

Maybe I'm showing my age but the Android model is somewhat similar to what 3DO had in mind... single OS on multiple game console manufacturers and profit off the licensing fees. That didn't turn out too well.

Would like to remind fellow readers that the original iPhone was shipped without the iPhone SDK with Steve Jobs pushing for web-based applications, yet Apple was roundly criticized for it. http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/06/11iphone.h

This is actually a pretty likely occurrence when navigating. The tree serves as a landmark and if there are no objects in the field of view to serve as a visual reference one can lose all sense of perspective and collide with it.

Human nature is to focus on the negative. Say whatever you want about draconian App Store policies but Apple does a reasonably good job in promoting third party apps. They get featured in TV ads, writeups etc. And third party review sites s

Essentially, he claims that open source code is high quality code, except Google's own closed source search and ad products, where opening it will reduce its quality. But isn't that the point of "open source" in the first place?

Looks like Apple is going to leverage on MobileMe. If you're a MobileMe subscriber you will get an "all-access" pass to movies, video and audio content etc with no ads. On top of that you get email, webhosting, "Find My iPhone" features etc

This is why Apple's policy of not talking about unreleased products make perfect sense. Steve Jobs probably experiences this on a regular basis. For every iPhone smash hit, he must've gone through tens or even hundreds of duds.

Problem with your argument is that everything that Chrome OS runs (web apps), also runs on Windows, Mac, Linux. The reverse is not true. Win32/64/PEF/Mach-O binaries do not execute on Chrome OS.

This was covered by Patently Apple a few weeks ago. NY Times is late to the party. To me this is to prevent Google's Chrome OS from being profitable.

Volume of cone = pi * r^2 * h / 3. Plugging in r1 of 3 and r2 of 2.5, and h1 of 36 and h2 of 34. Constants cancel out, that's an increase of 2.38 times in volume. This is per cone ;)
